Alright as the last measurement of a desperate man I've come to seek the wisdom of H/A.
I've played the WoW trial on a US server with some people I enjoy playing with, they've made the experience worth while and encouraged me to get a regular account. Though I am located in the EU I know that it is possible to buy a WoW US cd-key via internet and having it delivered via email. My three question are these:
1. Is this legal?
2. Does anyone here have experience doing this?
3. Can anyone recommend a dependable service where I can buy a US cd-key with as little hassle as possible?
If you've got a US trial account, you should just need to buy a US top-up card to convert that account into a live account.
I don't have any personal experience with WoW, but that's how other MMOs I've played work. You just upgrade your trial account with a time card or whatever. If that trial account is a US account then the paid account is going to be a US account.
So yeah, all you'd have to do is buy a US WoW time card. You can probably do this 'virtually' where they just email you the number rather than post you a physical card.

Not true he will need to buy a US retail copy of the game.

Yes, but there are pages selling just fresh US (and EU) cd-keys, I just don't know if this is legit or who I can trust.
Have you talked to people who have done this? I would be a little concerned about ping times.
If you plan to only pve then maybe it isn't a big deal, but I know pvp, any latency at all will be brutal.

I was a bit worried at first but during trial I really had great ping so this doesn't seem to be a problem
EU-US latency is only about 70-80ms inherently. In PvE, Quartz can compensate for most of it, depending on class (I've noticed that warrior and bear tanks suffer a bit with high latency) and disabling Nagle clientside will help with WoW's somewhat retarded netcode (at the cost of download speed of your PC, there's a guide out there). Blizzard claims they have disabled already but the last time I looked, disabling on client end still helps. It'd still hurt a bit in PvP, but really, it shouldn't be to big a problem.
If you have the trial installed already, I don't think you need a CD Key. You just need to go to the account management page and upgrade your account.
The only thing the CD Key is for is to prove that you paid for the game. I think you can update trial accounts over the web by logging in to account management here: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account

Ok, so I called up the WoW support line and apparently there's nothing illegit with buying a cd-key online or playing on a US server from EU. I then used a page called Gamer's Loot to purchase a key, it took about 10 min and the whole process was really smooth. So all my problems are solved! Thanks I bunch for your replies!

Or will they not export it? Get one of your US friends to buy a copy and email you the key/post the retail copy whatever.

And you can download the trial here, which is really the full game client: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade/trial/?referrer=WORLDOFWARCRAFT&source=wowhome&promo=1
Yeah, I tried that but it rejects my credit card (I believe it does this because it's a European credit card).
Sounds great! Btw I'm a bit low on cash, do you think I can pay in blood? 8-)
You'll have to send me a sample first so I can make sure your blood is clean. You don't happen to be type 0- by chance?
Sure, just send me your address! :winky:
