Console Free Play

I remember the lines being somewhat long in the past years, but there were also a bunch of free stations open most of the time. Are the console free-play and "bring your own console" rooms the one and the same?

We have a relatively large group of friends that would like to play a few NES games to completion, and have our own NES and cartridges to bring, but weren't sure if the bring your own console rooms survived the move to the Seattle convention center.

I know the retro club will have their own room like last year, but I don't think some of the other guests appreciated all the noise we made when we spent 6 hours beating Kickle Cubicle, so we'd like to try and carve out a separate spot if possible.

This is relevant to my interests. I'm hoping to somehow get some Brawl 1v1s on a tournament ruleset.

I'm with ya there, the official Brawl tourney is way too long for me, so a smaller tourney or some freeplay with Brawl would be awesome.

we have a "bring your own console" room? If so thy is bad ass!

If not, we should have one and you can like "rent" out the room for an hour tide like a halo 3 rocket race tournment

Heh, so I'm guessing that all of the responses of "wow, that'd be a great idea", means that there isn't one any more :).

Too bad. I'd love to set up a tv set and a nes somewhere but wouldn't want to be hassled by security.

Maybe we'll just bring a small TV and portable NES and hang out in the handheld lounge? :)

Surprised no on has commented on this who went last year. There is a Free Play console room where you borrow consoles to play (somewhat of a long line to get them), but I do not know about Bring Your Own Console. I believe how it was done at Seattle (I've only been to PAX once, and that was last year) is that the Free Play TV's were only for those consoles or games that were borrowed from the Free Play sign up table, so I don't think they allowed you to bring your own consoles (you could bring your own games).

Any one else who was there last year remember if they had an NES to borrow? I was too busy with Bioshock on 360 and Wii Sports to notice.

That would be the classic console room you're looking for, it was seperate from (and much more casual than) the rest of the free play. Apparently they'll be back again this year.
