Replacing broken 360 discs

Hey H/A,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with 360s and them scratching discs and making them unreadable.

My 360 has recently ruined my copy of Fifa 08 after about 2 weeks of owning it, and I am loathe to have to go out and purchase another copy. Is there anything that I can do, I am mostly assuming I am SOL as I turned down the disc insurance at my EBgames cause who would think that your 360 would gouge the disc until it is unreadable?

Also, is this a warning sign that my dvd drive is about to shit the bed?

Thanks for any information.

Well, I certainly wouldn't ever want to feel so guilty I'd kill myself. So I don't know what I'd do if I were you!

I think you are probably SOL, unless EA is willing to send you a "media" copy of the game for a nominal fee if you prove you bought it already.

Of course, with no licensing scheme on 360 games, I don't see this being very likely.

The above post is kinda nudging the edge of what is allowed on these boards, incidentally.

You could try going to one of your local used games retailers and asking if they are able to do scratched disc repair. It might work, depending on how bad the damage is. But if your 360 ate it just through normal use, you might just end up in the same situation in another couple weeks.

So, I would never recommend anyone do this, because it's very unethical, but...

I've heard from random people on the street, not even friends, really, that Walmart doesn't require receipts for returns. And that if you take a scratched disk in (that scratch that occurs from bumping the 360, and is barely noticeable on the outside, not that I'd know) and say you bought it and it doesn't work, they will allow you to trade it for an exact copy of the same game. Maybe someone would say they'd just gotten it for Father's Day, or whatever reason for gift giving had just passed.

I agree. You should not do this. Personally, If I ripped off wal-mart, I would feel so guilty I would want to kill myself.

Several places do scratched disc repair for a couple of bucks. What I would be most worried about, though, is that your 360 is scratching discs. If your disc drive starts to make the slightest unusual noise then call Microsoft. If you're under a year since you bought it they'll replce it no worries.

My disc drive has been making bad noises since I purchased and played Mass Effect. I swear it was the first time the game failed to load textures my drive started making horrible sounds. Hasn't been the same since then, at random times it will get disc read errors. I guess I can give it a shot with Microsoft and see if they can repair it but it has been almost two years since I bought my 360.
