I currently have a domain name and server space at dotster.com. Problem is I hate them. My site is constantly slow, down and difficult to update. Does anyone know of any decent (semi-cheap) webhosting servers?
Im interested in making a wordpress based site because it seems easy to update daily. The wordpress.org site recommends dreamhost. What do you guys know about them?
Oh yea, and I'm looking for something with php and mysql support.
My site (see signature) is hosted on hostgator's $7.95/month shared server plan. I don't get tons of traffic, but I've noticed no downtime (which isn't to say there has been none, I just haven't seen it happen) and download speeds have been quite good.

I run (admittedly low-traffic, these days rarely-updated) a wordpress blog (stolenthunder.net) on ASmallOrange, have been with them almost 2 years this fall. They have little to no downtime and their customer service/support is good. I'm on their cheapest plan, and the support is still good, and I think that says good things about them. The cPanel controls they use for managing your site settings has working plugins for managing things like your mysql databases, which makes running wordpress easier on someone who's setting it up for the first time.
I'm on the admin team of another site (portalstones.com) that's hosted on phpwebhosting. They're cheap and offer theoretically unlimited bandwidth. Portalstones is hosted there because our webmaster has used them before and prefers them. We haven't had any serious problems with them so far (approaching 1 year), but:
they've had more downtime than ASmallOrange
the service/support system built into their site is weak, since it's usually down when your site is down. When they're having downtime, you just have to wait for your site to come back; it's very difficult to contact them.
there are hardly any helpful controls - you have to manage databases, etc. manually
I've been using Bluehost for a few years now. They've always been pretty good. Decent prices. Haven't used support much, but it's been reasonably responsive when I've needed them.
I've been using Dreamhost for a while now, and they're quite good.
If you consider them, find someone who's willing to give you a good referral discount. you can get quite good deals with them that way; I'm paying $250 total for 5 years with 2TB disk space and 20TB/month bandwidth, which is way more than I'll ever use.
I have a site on godaddy.com, it's quite cheap and seems to be pretty good.

I used to use phpwebhosting, but their infrastructure is old. I started having some downtime on my server.
Then I got me a linode (linode.com) and haven't looked back. It's so awesome, but you do sort of need to know a thing or two about getting a webserver running on your Linux distribution of choice. It's also $20 a month, but for me it's basically like having my own co-located server.
Dreamhost is ok if you are gonna share your website with immediate family and a few friends but it SUCKS balls if your site is going to generate any sort of traffic.

I piggyback on my friend's Hostgator account, and it's pretty good. I've not had much opportunity to test it, but it handled a direct link to a 64MB mp3 from Joystiq this week with no problem.

Yeah, I'm delivering the video you see streaming on my site plus the 18mb demo in my sig pretty regularly and it seems to do well. I've heard mixed things about Dreamhost but I haven't heard anything bad about hostgator. I've also heard good things about godaddy.

They are like the kings of reliability + service but everything comes at a price.

No offense but in my experience, those two are possibly the worst webhosts I have ever used
Another one that I forgot to mention, but have had good experiences with in the past. http://www.mediatemple.net/
