Is Robot's guild of vampiric lore? I totally agree with Mors that they'd be more likely to side with WAR's definition of Order than Destruction. All of the vampire bloodlines come from human groups, and rely on human society/urban centers to thrive. (Well, I guess the Strigoi don't exactly. But they still need humans.) The vampires would have no reason to side with Chaos or Greenskins, because they aren't food sources for them and their societies can't be manipulated by the blood-suckers. Heck, in Bretonnia there was an entire blood line which rules one section of the country as nobles.

On most PVP servers, it was in the neighborhood of 2:1. On PVE servers, it was even more ridiculous. It took a couple of years for the population to balance out.

I really don't think VCs would be order, because which destruction race would you pit them against?

    You put VCs against Brettonians.

edit: in WH lore yeah I could see it, but you need to keep the concept of it being Order vs Disorder.

In WoW beta horde outnumbered alliance 2:1 easily, but that flip flopped on release.

Apparently I am just never destined to be on the side I want in any MMO I play due to annoying circumstances. I had to put up with my side being a bunch of annoying idiots in WoW, I don't want to have to do that again here. Sigh, why can't all the idiots just go order?

I have my doubts about Destruction truly outnumbering Order. In WoW everyone would had thought the same for everyone wanting to play Horde and be a badass Undead, big mean Orc, enormous Tauren, or Jamaican troll. Yet all the standard fantasy MMO players swarmed to the Alliance side and their posh elves.

I have a hard time seeing how the trend is going to be different this time around once the non-WAR fanbase gets into this game.

This NDA issue is very quickly becoming a Warhammer cliche.

The CE Closed Beta'ers are just gonna go pissing all over the internet soon... as if they havn't already.

You can house-train them with the NDA, but if you take away their litter box (forums), they'll just shit all over the house.

Oh come now.. it's like 1.8:1

    Might as well be 2:1.

As far as I remember, there was no way to actually tell the exact server population in WOW either... as opposed to WAR which tells you every time you change zones or whatever.

This is what comes of posting at work. I shall resist the urge to back-edit my post in order to appear more organized than I am.

I really feel like WAR is pushing Destruction a lot more than WOW pushed Horde, and I do think that the Destruction side on WAR has a lot more appeal than Horde on WOW, too. Also, WAR isn't going to be picking up people from the ether, they'll be pulling in existing WOW players for a large portion of their userbase. And they're a PVP game. And the WOW model puts it that the better PVP players go with the bad guys.

Even though I don't think that's true, it seems to be the perception people have, which is good-as-true if it affects the population.

The way I see it, a good pull to a game is showing the *at least partially* unique races, that other MMO's don't offer--and Chaos/Greenskin/Delves fit the bill more than the standard Human, Elf, Dwarf setting.

That, and when people unfamiliar with Warhammer see Warhammer, personally I think either 40k comes to mind, with the Empire armorsets, or the Greenskins come to mind.

Sometimes you hafta settle on a selling point to get your foot in the door, then let the people choose what they want afterwards.

If advertising Destruction pulls more people in, so be it. The more players the better.

Man on the topic of undead I hope the tomb kings make it in as a playable someday. Really. The art on these guys just always looks so awesome.

I mean if you look through the books all the classes are there:

    Liche Priests: Healers/pets
    Tomb Guard: Tanks
    Ushabti: Melee DPS
    Ranged dps: Skeleton Archers.

The only problem is who would they fight? I'm sure skaven and vampire counts would be out way before these guys, so I'm doubting there would be anyone relevant left. At the very least there's a good lore excuse for them to go to war - Mother fucking Settra the imperishable.

Anyways I'm at least happy enough playing chaos... Back to the beta!

    Other VCs?
You could have the Von Carsteins and their Sylvania Thralls vs. Necrarch and their horde of Undead (could even bring in Nagash, woo).
Yeah, that'd be stretching it a bit. But it'd be fun :) .

Or, if you wanted to bring in Tomb Kings that might work. VCs and TKs do not get along.

And the NDA should be down, like now. Fileplanent's download for the Open Beta is even up now. Not that you can doing anything with it.

I personally think putting the OB download up 21 days before it's useable is rather wacky. The game will probably have been patched several times by then and will need a huge patch.

It just turns all the questions from "Where is the OB download?" to "How do I log into the OB? my codes aren't working!!!11!!"

I don't think anyone is arguing that they shouldn't market destruction at all, I would just like to see some Order marketing as well.

We've seen barely anything with the iconic Warrior Priest, and outside of the original trailer I don't think they even touched on Sigmar. Two hugely popular entities that have been left in the back corner of the garage next to the christmas lights, the lawnmower and that drumset you just had to have

It's unfortunate really. The way the player interacts with the world should be of paramount concern. As fans of the Warhammer mythos, we can easily say 'we don't want those kinds of players who are going to be judging the game based on how it looks,' but I think that's disingenuous. Certainly Mythic wants those people (they want all people), and the fact is, if people are switching from WoW to WAR, they're going to notice the animations, and it's going to cause some, if not many, of those converts to leave back to WoW once WotLK comes out.

That is, assuming the gold release doesn't have more 'finalized' animations, and what we see now in the videos is indicative of what we can expect in the final release.

    Y'now... fuck it.

They're already a lot better. Not WoW, but close.

As for the Open Beta? It serves no purpose. Closed is large enough to get a good test going on. No fucking reason to bitch about the length other than your own expectations being violated.

It's not so much the individual animations themselves. They're not really all that bad, about on par with LotR, maybe a bit better. It's the way they string together (or how they don't) where it really becomes apparent. I have more to say about it, but this damn NDA needs to drop. I hope I can elaborate more sooner, rather than later.

That's because people who know who Sigmar is, or know how 'iconic' the Warrior Priests are... are already getting Warhammer.

They are trying to appeal to people who DON'T know all the lore, and are looking for a new game to pull them in.

Trying to stuff a lot of lore down their throats to get them to play isn't going to get anyone.

I would like to see more on the Empire tho, it's not quite your goody-goody Human side that most people think.

This might be doable. Drop any leading 'h' or trailing 'g,' replace any occurrence of 'th' with 'f,' and replace any trailing 's' with a 'z.' Add in a few dictionary swaps for flavor and that should get you most of the way.

People were awfully sold on the Mark of Chaos intro, and that was just a Shadow Warrior (lollegolas) being badass and a Warrior Priest being ridiculously badass.

That's always been part of the point of Bretonnia though; the nobility ignores that they'd be next in line (along with the other more Southern nations). They just focus on their glory, easy monstery kills, and "protection" of peasantry. It's all a big farce for the Wood Elves to protect themselves anyway.

Just make a macro for "WAAAAAGH!", you shouldn't need to say much besides that.

Basically, my plan on release is to make an order and a destruction character, not knowing yet which one will be my main. The order one'll be my main only if the populations are way out of whack and destruction is chock-full of idiots. But my hunch is the populations will be mostly equal.

In uniqueness, I'd say Lizardmen and Skaven makes sense; Lizardmen are really just mindless automatons though, so that kind of tanks that whole idea, without vastly rewriting the lore.

More humans might not be recieved well, nor more elves. Which leaves... Ogres.

A strange thing from the Fileplanet Download...
"Be among the first to play Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning in this exclusive FilePlanet event. Subscribers living in North America, Australia and New Zealand only will have access to the beta event. Early beta participants may have an opportunity to join the "limited bonus stress test event" on August 22nd."

So... they're going to let OB folks play for a weekend, then kick them out for two weeks? Wha?

And I am firmly against Lizardmen ever being playable. Everyone seems high on "Lizardmen vs. Skaven" but I think that'd be a horrible use of Skaven IMO.

    No Under-Empre = No Skaven :p .

Bring in Lustria as some sort of Optional, extra place. Let it be almost a neutral Realm for folks to conquer. That's how GW did it when they introduced it basically.
