0S9 programs on OSX?

So I recently found a few of my old Mac games from the '90s when I got my new laptop. I've got a nostalgic itch to play them again, but my dad says that you can't emulate OS9 in windowed mode in the newer versions of OSX like you used to be able to - I was wondering if there were any simple emulators that'd let me do this. It seems pretty lame for apple to omit OS9 compatability in newer versions of X, but I guess I have to roll with it.

It's because OS9 and older macs ran on PowerPC chips, whereas new macs run on Intel chips.

If your Mac doesn't have a G3 or G4 processor, you won't be able to run those old applications.

You could run "Classic" on earlier versions of OS X, which was basically an OS 9 partition. I believed that they eliminated it in 10.4 though. The only reason they did it at all was that there were a lot of programs that many users needed that took years to port over to OS X, for one reason or another. I guess they figured that by 10.4, if a program wasn't compatible with OS X, people probably weren't using it anyway. And what he said above about Intel chips.

My Powerbook G4 (which came w/ 10.4) also included the disc with 9 on it. I've used it to play Starcraft on my Powerbook. As has been said, you do need to have the PPC chip.

According to Wikipedia, there is an emulator for Intel chips called SheepShaver, but the performance on Intel chips is (I guess) less than ideal.

I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?

Hopefully the performance isn't too terrible. I'm just jonesin' to play some Myth and Simcity 2000 on my new MacBook, really.

Yeah, but I didn't know that until you just posted :) Is there a patch or something?
