UK XBox in Hong Kong

Does anyone know if my UK Xbox 360 will work in Hong Kong? As far as I'm aware the power supplies are the same although I'm not too educated in these things.

Also I guess games I bought in Hong Kong wouldn't play as they'd be the wrong region? That's not a huge problem as I have a massive back-catalogue of games waiting to be played.

The standard voltage in Hong Kong is 220 Volts AC and 50HZ, so you're probably good. You might need a plug adapter if your Xbox doesn't have a three-pronged, triangle-shaped, whatchamajiggit plug that's really annoying to unplug.

As for the region locking, you've answered your own question. They might have PAL games, but the majority are from Japan and the US.

I'd thought Hong Kong would be Region 2 as well but it's Region 3, so yeah, Hong Kong games wont work on your system. I believe China is also a PAL region, so it should work fine with TVs over there as well (but really, what TV doesn't support PAL and NTSC auto-switching these days anyway?). The power voltage is slightly different in Hong Kong from the UK (20v difference) but that won't be a problem.

Edit: Oh, and both Hong Kong and the UK use type G sockets, so you won't need a travel adapter.

Actually, some HK releases are released region-free. Check www.play-asia.com to see which ones are.

They have a weird system of releasing games in HK. Some are the actual US version (as in imported) but billed as the local version at local price (which is probably the cheapest official msrp anywhere) some are the actual PAL Euro version while some are Hong Kong versions, which are NTSC-J. There is no majority of minority as far as I'm aware. And even within those, some are actually region free.

Microsoft left region encoding up to the individual publisher, which probably doesn't help with the random selection in HK.

Should be fine. I bring my xbox back and forth from Hong Kong to UK all the time.

Its a japanese xbox which converts the voltage from the Japanese voltage to 220V through a transformer, but the same setup works here in Hong Kong as it does in the UK.

As for games, you can get them real cheap here - new ones too. But as a previous poster said, check on playasia if theyre region free or not.
