iTunes won't let me burn CDs

I have the latest version of iTunes and I'm using a MacBook Pro. I have burned CDs with this computer before but now it won't let me. The drive works for other uses but whenever I tell iTunes to burn a CD, nothing happens and the CD is ejected after a short period of time. I tried googling and every answer doesn't solve the problem. Has anyone experienced this before?

    try burning onto a different CD,
    try burning with a program other then itunes
    try burning different mp3/data/whatever onto the CD

    Divide and conquer. Figure out wherein the problem lies and the solution will become apparent.

    Have you tried re-installing iTunes? I've had updates where certain common features didn't work until I reinstalled (album art fetching for example).
