I wasn't sure where to pose this question and I tried to Google the answer but my google-fu must be weak.
For the past two days my DS lite has been turning off instead of going into sleep mode when I close the lid. I checked all the settings and I didn't see one that controled the sleep mode, does anyone have a suggestion on how I can fix this problem or does sleep mode stop working after so long? At first I thought it was just the game I was playing at the time, but sleep mode has worked before on this game. I tried another game out just to test that idea and it turned off on another game as well. I think I can stand if my DS is "broken" but I can't stand to face Mr. Resseti again so if anyone has an idea please let me know!!

If it's under warranty (and even if it's not) I would suggest e-mailing Nintendo about it. When I thought my Wii was broken, they gave me steps to "reset" the AC adapter which solved the problem (turns out my Wii wasn't broken), and people here will testify that they have a very agreeable customer support. They might fix or replace your DS even if it's off its warranty.
I don't know the proper term, but they had me unplug the cables in a specific order, leave my DS and AC adapter unplugged for 5 minutes, then plug it all back and turn the Wii on. Like magic, it suddenly worked. They said it wasn't the Wii, but the AC adapter that had the problem and needed to be unplugged for a specific time. I tried it by myself, but the solution was actually to leave it unplugged longer than what I did.
Yes this is even when the battery is fully charged. I'll look up steps on how to reset the adapter and try that, I guess if it doesn't work I'll contact Nintendo. If anyone else has help tips I'm open to suggestion!! Thanks for the suggestions so far

My adapter comment was for my own Wii issue, I doubt it has anything to do with your DS problem here. I was just saying Nintendo is quick to fix problems.
I would assume it has less (read: nothing) to do with your adapter and more to do with either the sensor that checks if the case is closed or some sort of confused subroutine that goes off when it does get tripped.
If it shuts off when the lid is closed, then the sensor must work fine. If the DS works fine otherwise, it's probably not a firmware issue. What it sounds like is something to do with the DS's power supply not correctly entering the sleep mode. But regardless, it's not going to be something that you can fix, so calling technical support is probably a good idea.
