After going bald for the summer (and discovering how fantastic it is) I've decided to keep it a year round tradition. I usually go to my barber once a week but with my new travel arrangements for work, I've been looking into those mechanical shavers from Braun. Is it true that using those will cause in-grown hairs? Is there any way to prevent this other than using a blade to shave?
Never tried an electric shaver, maybe if you set it to the "5 oclock shadow" setting you won't get ingrown hairs? I dunno.
If it is a problem just get a nice razor, use shaving gel and shave with the grain.
I'd shy away from foil or rotary electric shavers for your head. It's got to cut so many hairs and you've got scalp oils; you're going to constantly be cleaning it out and churn through replacement blades. If you need to go to the skin I'd say use razors (shick quattro power works well). I don't go to the skin often, and every few days or week use a cheap ($10-20) set of conair clippers with no guard; this gets it real short, like 1/16th of an inch or less. Used a few mirrors the first few times, but now I only use one and can probably do it without mirrors at all.
Electric shavers have always worked with everyone in my family. If you do a quick sweep everyday it keeps it nice and smooth for a while. I believe my dad uses this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TFLB2W . He pretty much recommends that to anyone he knows.
