Ok...never really set this up before, but I have used them in the past (someone else set it up). I want to use remote desktop to connect to my pc at home. I have Win XP Home edition. So I don't think I can use the native Windows remote desktop except to connect.
So...what are some good programs that I can download and use? Free is a must...and something that doesn't take up too many resources would be great as well.
Is it free? Do I have to install a client on the other pc as well? The pc I have at work is XP Pro...can I just use the remote desktop service in there to connect to the UltraVNC at home?

UltraVNC is free and open-source.
You will have to install it and enable the VNC Server component on the host PC. The installation instructions at www.uvnc.com are pretty good, just follow those.
You will also have to open up the proper ports on your router at home.
It is not cross-compatible with Remote Desktop. Remote Desktop Protocol is a closed standard supported by Microsoft and their licensees only (like Citrix). There is no free version of it; and no version at all that works on XP Home.
Feral on
every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
Yeah...I really don't want to connect through a web browser if at all possible, but I'll certainly try it out I guess. Anyone know of anything else or any other good options?
There's also a TightVNC portable client floating around out there. I lost my copy a long time ago but there was no installer package and you could just run the exe from a thumbdrive. It's very handy but I haven't been able to find it again.

There's normally client programs but I got the vibe you didn't want to install anything on the client PC.

Installing something on the work pc isn't really a problem...but using the web browser would be. We have a filter that monitors and filters our web browsing. Our previous one wasn't working So they installed a new one tonight. But the IT guy told me that they don't do anything about remote desktops.....sooooo...yeah.
