Basically I was using a friends copy (on the PC) and uninstalled it after a while as we wanted to play together rather than make do with the same CD key. Now that I've bought my own new copy I can't actually install it; I'm not given the option to.
^ These are my options. There's no residual folders left over from the last install under program files, and it doesn't appear in the general 'uninstall programs' list either.
Clicking uninstall on the DVD does nothing, as, expectedly, neither do play multiplayer or singleplayer.
I've heard there are some draconian anti piracy things on new software only allowing so many installs per purchased copy, but if yours is New this shouldn't be an issue.
Have you tried doing a "find" on your hard drive to look for any residual call of duty files/folders?
Edit: wunderbar and oremlk have some good ideas, try those
Is that just the auto-run? I'm not sure if CoD4 is one of those screwy games where it doesn't let you manually re-install, but have you tried checking the DVD drive for setup.exe or something of the like?
OremLK on
My zombie survival life simulator They Don't Sleep is out now on Steam if you want to check it out.
I checked the registry and there's nothing I recognised as either activision or CoD4; however I've found a solution now, I'm just running setup.exe from inside the DVD rather than autoplay.
Thread over! Thanks for help though.
edit: heh, you guys hit the nail on the head. I'm still somewhat confused as to what residual files must have been left on my HDD.
