Extremely cutsey but the tech involved is pretty neat. (Like how the game seemed to recognize the kid drew a car.) I hope we see more of this (with less fuzzy) kind of stuff in the future.

According to ps3fanboy it won't be available till late 2009 and even then thats only the PAL release, no word on North American release yet.

    Wow.. Eurogamer described it as some kind of puppy/monkey combobulation, and they were right. I would also be seriously impressed if it actually works as advertised.

    I'm sure this would work fine on the floor too, but I wonder how it would handle uneven surfaces and stuff. From my experience with other Eye applications I don't think lighting will be a big problem since it doesn't have to make out little details, but we'll see.

    But it would be interesting to see this live.

    I'm a huge nerd. Of all the people I know I am by far the nerdiest.

    But even this has 'buy a real fucking dog' smacked all over it. I mean, its cute yeah but this is a tamagotchi 2.0 and not a substitute for a real animal.

    'The new member of the family' was the kicker. If I showed this to my dad he would spit in my face and tell me to man up and buy a wolf.

    I don't know if I'm convinced about this. It looks kind of neat, but I feel that this is something that won't be nearly as fun when it's implemented. I can see responsiveness, and how well it tracks your movements being big issues, as well as the fact that you usually don't set your TV on a table, or any excessively large flat surface tat they have in the video. Will this be enough to convince people to rearrance their furniture? I'm not really sure.

    But it does look kind of cute though.

    Apparently it looks like its only due for a PAL only release in LATE 2009. Very weaksauce. Sounds like it isn't anywhere near launch.

    Edit: TLDR - Just read Durandal's ToTP

    How far from the PS3 can the camera get? If it can get pretty far, then you could just set it on a nearby workable surface and just watch the TV to see what's going on, rather than watching your actual hands. This might be helped by the ability to reverse the image horizontally, so that when you move to the "right" on the camera, it'll move right on the screen, making it feel less disconnected. This should be made an option, though.

    I expect that the drawing interpretation has GOT to be based upon a "dictionary" of various drawings that are stored with the game. I don't see any other way it could work, unless you draw anything ever, and it just draws wheels and windows on it and rolls it around. (Incoming dongs with windows and wheels.)

    So I bet it has a basic house shape, car shape, tree shape, animal shapes, etc. Lots of easily recognizable things where it can see part of that shape in your drawing and then complete it. It wouldn't surprise me if the manual included a list of drawings of things and what parts you needed to draw to make sure that the game would recognize it.

    I would post a photo but you couldnt see past the coke cans, last nights chinese and all of my draft notes.

    I wonder if it could recognise garbage and play around with it on screen. licking the last drips out of that heineken bottle that is tipped over spilling all onto my newspaper.
