I bet you think Halo is good too.
And yeah this'll probably get locked.
I remember disliking it when it was released, but the review has made me think about playing it again. It did do a lot of interesting things, and I don't think I would be as disappointed by a non-traditional RPG this time around.
Well, given Actionbutton.net's MO, the list is going to be especially incendiary. For better or worse (I'm not sure where I stand on them anymore), the site's writers have drastically different metrics for what makes games good and bad than pretty much every other site.
I used to hate Tim Rogers, but on the other hand I've been reading a lot more Chuck Klosterman, so Rogers' stuff is fine to me so long as I'm not actually clicking the link to find out details about a specific video game.
And I know knee-jerk reactions to the titles on the list kind of defeats the whole purpose, but any list that has both Lost Vikings and Pac-Man CE at least deserves a half-glance!
I am prepared to bet that you are wrong.
I bet my bottle cap collection that you're assumption of my assumption is wrong.
I don't read this website, but I think it's the kind of website that's not going to do that.

They did a whole lot of things right with it.
Also: I had a whole lot of fun with it.
Jesus.
I agree with Xagarath. Their choices so far seem to be intentionally non-traditional. Castlevania: Bloodlines over SOTN? No Final Fantasy, Mario, Zelda, Resident Evil, Half Life or Deus Ex (as of yet).
Which will be even more controversial as they'll rescind their choice of Pac-Man Championship Edition at #5.
That list is pretty crap.
Yeah, he loved it when he reviewed it before. It's probably in the top four.
And it deserves it, too. Absolutely amazing game. Honestly, it'd make it in my top five, too.
As for mario or zelda: At least a mario will probably be in the top four. SMG or SMB3, most likely. Zelda... honestly, if he doesn't have OOT on there, I don't have that much of a problem with his reasoning. It isn't my favorite zelda, and honestly most of the reason it was considered perfect was because it was the first of it's kind. The more action-adventures there are, the more flaws are apparent.
Enough so that we can make the Top X lists of Top X games of all time list.
Knew this would get totp'd argh
You should actually read them. It's not so much of a top 25 games list as it is an excuse to post favorite games and talk about them.
Okay well maybe not but the text really gives this shit weight.
I know, but they always end horribly because you have people chiming in "Why isn't MY game on there!?!?" and then people start crying bias and how horrible the list maker is.
It's been a long time since we had an actionbutton thread.
That right there is how you write a fucking review. Certainly made me add it to my list of games I need to play.
Eurogamer liked it, too, if that helps.
But for all I know, actionbutton.net might be some super-popular up-and-coming site in the gaming world that I just haven't heard of.
Can anyone make a good case for this thread before I lock it?
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
I'm sure there will be a lot of people posting "What, no Final Fantasy?", but this website is one of the few places to read something interesting on the topic of video games, and this list (so far) has delivered on content. If you have time, the Gears of War entry is worth reading. If you don't, I'll break it down: He talks about CliffyB crying over Lunar 2, first person shooters in Japan, and relates that to Hironobu Sakaguchi wanting to develop "something like Gears of War." I understand that this thread might be locked, but I think people who actually read the entries in this list will come away impressed.
I have searched google for Tim Rogers by itself and in association with games, gaming, reviews, etc and decided that is not a good enough reason.
*LOCKED*
