Yea, those two years started in 1970. He's been continuously in the Senate since then.

Possibly a sense of humor if you can just by the name of the RAVE bill...

Foreign policy brilliance. Also - has appeal to blue collar Catholic voters.

It's a plus for me that both men on the Democratic ticket are constitutional scholars who taught law school.

Experience, Foreign Policy expertise (he's the senator that foreign leaders call), older voters, and he's a perfect attack dog.

Note on Biden: Despite being a senator for over 30 years, he is the least wealthy member of the Senate.

This tells you something of the Man's character.

I heard a pundit on MSNBC this morning saying that biden's propensity to for gaffes could be a benefit so long as he says things Obama can't and other people aren't. He tried to come up with an example, but was having problems. Eventually he went with something like "Do you want McCain's finger on the button?" It's an interesting theory, but I don't know how believable it is.

Yeah. He only has one house, no place in DC. So he commutes every day.

Heh, I was hanging with a couple of friends and they say they will vote McCain because they're medical students and they think the healthcare system change will affect them bigtime and so they are looking out for themselves. They think even if Obama makes it into office he'll probably 'die a mysterious death' - a country full of cynics! Cynics I say!

On the other hand, I am gonna have a laugh riot if Obama & Biden loses as all my friends from the U.S. are 100% certain Obama is gonna win (young people) and all my professors, coworkers, etc. from VA & DC are 100% certain McCain is gonna win (old people) :)

Alright, my new pet theory? Obama intentionally leaked Biden's name, starting with just "staffer's think but can't confirm" and building to an outright confirmation by an anonymous staffer. It happened near enough to the real reveal that it didn't change his plans at all, leaking Reed all day friday made this pick still seem extremely interesting, and it keeps the media on his side. They were getting pissed about not having anything I'm sure, but now they got to do a little ferreting, put some things together themselves, and triumphantly announce they know before anyone else at like 2am. It's a huge rush for them and it doesn't hurt Obama any.

In non-Biden news Schwarzenegger is at best a maybe for the Pub convention. He apparently won't leave if the California budget isn't settled. Of course, this means the California state Dems know what they should do, because this not only fucks up McCain's first night, it makes him look stupid.

I popped over to Shakespeare Sister to see how they were taking it and saw someone reference Biden's role in the Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill thing.
I will never forget Biden's "leadership" of the committee to destroy Anita Hill. I will never forget that Biden kept witnesses against Clarence Thomas locked up in a hotel and never permitted them to testify, or that he eagerly admitted the "evidence" fabricated by the good Father Danforth. There are many things about Biden--his support of abstience-only education, his support of the bankruptcy bill--that I cannot stand, but his role in the Thomas hearings sickens me to this day as much as it did years ago.

Is this an accurate description of what happened?

Sure, everyone hated on him (what with the occasional crazy and the decidedly unfortunate debate techniques), but at least he could be reasoned with and brought something relatively coherent and interesting. You'd think we'd be a bit nostalgic give the quality of crazy we've been getting since then.

He started there. Well, actually, he started back with the original politics megathread here, went there, came back here, and returned once again.

Special note: He quit here around the same time I put up posts of his complaining people weren't being serious and complaining people should screw around. So... send me a pie.

I mean, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there'd be a misinformed opinion on that blog (Biden's authoring of the Violence Against Women Act apparently merits only reluctant applause), but I thought there might some basis, at least, for that woman's claim.

To the best of my knowledge, people are pissed because he "didn't defend her enough." He also didn't mention she took a lie detector test and passed (because he's campaigned for years to get them barred because he thinks they're crap) or that Thomas watches a lot of porn (he didn't think it was relevant or appropriate). Link to a year after interview with Biden and one of Hill's lawyers.
