I thought Spider Man 1 & 2 were both great. 2 was obviously better, but I still enjoyed 1 a lot.
And I didn't think 3 was bad. The problem with 3 was that it was just too busy. They tried to cram too much into one film. I think the issue was that Raimi thought he was losing his lead actor and so he made a scramble to get as much out of the last movie as he could in case the franchise was done after that. And by doing so, he ended up with a movie that was overloaded with plot and not enough time to expand on any of it.
I'm kind of looking forward to the Venom spin-off, cuz I like Topher Grace.
topher grace should have been spider-man
That would've been awesome. Tobey Maguire was a pretty decent choice, but I would've much preferred Grace.
I think 70% of the problems with the Spidey flicks can probably be attributed to casting choices.
Topher definitely would have made a better Spider-Man, he practically was Peter Parker in That 70's Show. At the very least we would have gotten the wise-acre aspect of Spidey that the movies hardly touched.
Jameson, though, man. Fucking perfect. Defoe? Excellent. Hell, I though Aunt May was cast ridiculously well. It's not like it was supposed to be the hip 40-something Aunt May of the ultimate line or anything.
As much as Kirsten Dunst made me hate Mary Jane, I don't think I've ever wondered who would've been better. Now I'm gonna be thinking about that for the next 20 minutes. Shit.
I was relieved to see Dunst in the role, because when I first heard about Kristen Dunst playing Mary Jane, I thought they talking about Kristen Johnson of 3rd Rock from the Sun fame.
I think Maguire was great casting, actually. I don't see the complaints there. Also, MJ is a hard role to cast because they were really pushing for the 'girl next door' feel for her as opposed to the 'wild child' MJ of the 60s or the Pornstar-looking MJ of th 80s and 90s.
I also dig Franco whats his name as little osbourne and the guy they got to play robertson.
I'm curious as to what the complaints over Maguire as Spidey are?

I'm going to spend the next 20 minutes thinking about the exact same thing: Sexy redhead actresses.

He wasn't... funny. I just like a spider-man who's funny, sarcastic, wise-assed. And when Maguire tried to be, he was just awkward about it. And yes, admittedly, a lot of that lies with the writing, but he didn't sell me on the moments when he should have been.

I think that Topher would be a nice replacement going forward, since Peter should be coming into his own a little and becoming slightly sarcastic, a little confident, but still WRACKED with self-doubt a lot of the time. Pretty much Topher yea.

You realize he didn't write the script right?
I know, which is why I said "admittedly, a lot of that lies with the writing"- I know he was working with what he was given. But there are moments in the script which were meant to be funny which were just uncomfortable to watch, and he played a part in that.

Alicia Witt and Laura Prepon immediately came to mind for the many of us who think Dunst looks like a homely werewolf.
Yeah, Bring It On wasn't exactly demanding, but I don't remember thinking there was anything wrong with her bits in Eternal Sunshine.
In any case, it'd have been nice if Maguire and Dunst had had some chemistry. Instead, he just seems kind of creepy, and she seems inexplicably, unconvincingly attracted to him.
Course, I remember reading some reports that they hate each other.

I also hate doddering, old Aunt May.

Whoever it was that played Gwen Stacy was awful. Although that could've been a writing problem more than anything.

Neither can Dunst. What's your point?
It goes to trial on January 6.
Laura Prepon was solid in That '70's Show, but there's a reason she was on October Road and Mila Kunis is actually getting acting jobs.

Anyway, I'd have preferred Witt. Because fuck you. And because she was on The Sopranos.
