Throbbing head pain.

I know it's probably just something stupid and nothing to worry about but all of yesterday I had this dull, chronic throb in the front left part of my head. Literally all day. From about 7AM to 11PM. Advil did nothing to alleviate the pain either as far as I recall.

When I woke up today, I thought it was gone, but about an hour later it was back. Now it seems to have migrated to the back of my head (lower near the neck), and is more of a random, shooty pain, but still on the left side, but the throb comes back every once in a while too.

Likely I just slept on a nerve ending or something?

Did you try "HEAD ON! APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD! HEAD ON! APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD!" ?

No but seriously, two days in a row of head pain plus "shooty" pain on one side of your body? I'd call your doctor or at the least talk to a pharmacist at the drug store. That sounds more serious than a simple home remedy or ignore it and hope it fixes it self kind of issue.

If you think it might be neck/nerve related, you might want to go see a chiropractor for an adjustment. A single appointment isn't too expensive, especially if you have insurance (some insurance covers a certain number of visits per year 100%).

If you think you may have some sort of migraine type condition, try some Excedrin migraine and a few cups of coffee. Caffeine is effective for treating them for a couple of reasons.

Try something warm on your neck or head. It will relax muscles and blood vessels and help whichever problem you're having.

Do you have any sinus/allergy issues going on? That's the first thing a headache with dull, throbbing pain would make me think of.

The shooting pain around your neck sounds a bit worse, though....I'm going to agree with JustinSane07 and say that at least a quick chat with a professional would be a good idea. Wouldn't hurt for you to take a hot shower, have a bit of something caffinated & some water and see how it goes from there also.

Actually, yes. My allergies have been a disaster, and they always affect my sinuses.

    Thanks, all.

what where you doing when the pain first started?

does anything you do make the pain go away or get worse?

is the pain all the time, or does it come and go?

i suggest trying some other analgesics. aspirin perhaps, i dunno. i'd go see a doctor if i was in that much pain for a couple days.

Usually when that happens to me, it's because I'm dehydrated and haven't gotten enough water that day. You might try drinking some water or fluids to hydrate yourself if you haven't done so already to see if that helps. It's not usually immediate relief, but it (for me) takes effect around 15-30 minutes later which helps.

Getting an abnormal amount of sun for you might also increase the chances of being dehydrated as well.

Try one of the various "extra strength" pain relievers, like Excedrin Extra-Strength or Excedrin Migraine (they're identical, only the migraine is generally more expensive), or their generic equivalents. They should include acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine.

Advil is kind of a pussy pain reliever; its main advantage is that it doesn't have the negative side effects of aspirin or acetaminophen.
