American Presidency : Democratic Convention - Hillary makes the case for Obama
RamiusJoined: July 19, 2000Administrator, ClubPAadmin
I am honored to be here tonight. A proud mother. A proud Democrat. A proud American. And a proud supporter of Barack Obama.
My friends, it is time to take back the country we love.
Whether you voted for me, or voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose. We are on the same team, and none of us can sit on the sidelines.
This is a fight for the future. And it's a fight we must win...
You haven't worked so hard over the last 18 months, or endured the last eight years, to suffer through more failed leadership.
No way. No how. No McCain.
Barack Obama is my candidate. And he must be our President.
I want you to ask yourselves: Were you in this campaign just for me? Or were you in it for that young Marine and others like him? Were you in it for that mom struggling with cancer while raising her kids? Were you in it for that boy and his mom surviving on the minimum wage? Were you in it for all the people in this country who feel invisible?
We don't have a moment to lose or a vote to spare.
Nothing less than the fate of our nation and the future of our children hang in the balance.
I want you to think about your children and grandchildren come election day. And think about the choices your parents and grandparents made that had such a big impact on your life and on the life of our nation.
We've got to ensure that the choice we make in this election honors the sacrifices of all who came before us, and will fill the lives of our children with possibility and hope.
That is our duty, to build that bright future, and to teach our children that in America there is no chasm too deep, no barrier too great and no ceiling too high for all who work hard, never back down, always keep going, have faith in God, in our country, and in each other.
Thank you so much. God bless America and Godspeed to you all.

Man, this crowd hates Pat Buchanan. Every time he opens his mouth they start booing.
Who doesn't hate Pat Buchanon?

The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

Well, Taylor Marsh and the commenters over there liked it to the point of voting for him, and she was among the craziest people in the primaries.

Heh, looks like Hillary may be retiring some of her debt tonight.
Kossacks are having a fundraising drive for her.

That pantsuit really is awful. I thought politicians knew all about color psychology. I mean, orange is great for making logos and things stand out, but... not for a pantsuit.
I suppose the message was good, though. (I still don't like Hillary)

I thought it was her going after that crucial New York Mets fan vote.
edit - loved the speech. I do like her now, which is weird and feels good.
Hee. The people over there are also waging a full fledged war on the Associated Press which is entertaining to watch.

She actually very quickly supported Obama after Hillary dropped out though, so her support is nothing new. Jeralyn at Talkleft has been more reluctant.

That faggot?
Meanwhile Larry King is letting Dennis Prager tear this whole event down with the tagline "Are the Clintons undercutting Obama?"
Fuck you, Larry King. Fuck you right in your 104 year-old face.
I had to change over to MSNBC after he went to commercial saying "And not everyone liked the speech; we'll be back with more critics after the break."
Fucking douchebag.
By all accounts he's a real prick when he's not on camera, too. One of those mediots who insists that everything has to be about him. Maybe his whole "seven marriages" thing should be a red flag.

I just assumed she'd converted to Buddhism
Maybe a tribute to the Denver Broncos considering the blue background? I mean, the convention is in Denver...
Well, if nothing else, somebody just earned herself a term as majority leader.
Not fucking likely.
Yeah, she's not senior enough to do it. But she might have earned herself enough goodwill to go down the Teddy Kennedy route.

It's interesting because I think this is the direction journalism legitimately needs to go; modern public relations has gotten far too good at gaming the "rules" of journalism, and I think we're seeing that reflected in declining sales for a lot of traditional media. At the same time, though, news agencies are going to have to come up with a way to avoid handing the reigns to shills with questionable backgrounds (like Fournier.)
That, and hire journalists who can manage to avoid developing ridiculous egos.

It isn't like there's a requirement that the majority leader have any senority at all, and there's a pretty decent argument that it shouldn't be someone like Reid (or Daschle), who is sort of vulnerable to the peculiarities of their (swing) state. Clinton is as safe as any Senator is, and she obviously has the clout and skill to be successful there.
Scuttlebutt for a while was that she'd cut a deal to drop out of the presidential race, in exchange for the position of senate leader. I doubt there's anything to that, though.

Also, I liked the orange pantsuit.
I didn't realize there were so many old women on the internet.

He's like a celebrity, or something.
THERE ARE FINALLY DECENT PICTURES OF HER.
Obama broke her curse.
It's more like six actual old women and 400 paid Republican shills.
Perhaps she was getting style tips from Martha Stewart.

Everyone knows Obama has the +5 charisma buff for all members of his party. You get on his side, you automatically get a boost.
Who doesn't hate Pat Buchanon?
It's like KotoR, once you join the light side you have this magical divine aura about you.

EDIT: He seems to be confused though, refering to Hillary's speech as speech as "his" speech.
Anyone know where I can get Brian Schweitzer's speech? I heard good things, and he's always seemed entertaining to me.

She'll get a chairmanship of a couple committees. Maybe whip.
