Spyware is Raping My Computer

I've got some kind of ridiculous spyware on my computer. It's keeping me from downloading anything, and seems to be built to divert me away from sites with spyware-blocking programs (the sites won't load). I have ad-aware se, but I haven't updated it in a year, and I keep getting errors every time I attempt to update. A full system scan only found tracking cookies, and getting rid of them didn't do anything.

I'm really at a loss here. No downloads will work, so I can't get new programs, and I can't update my old one. Do you have any advice, H/A?

Download stuff from another computer, transfer it over via a burned CD, the network, USB thumbdrive.

If you can't do that, your option may be formatting and reinstalling Windows. =/

Reformat, reinstall, and never, EVER use Internet Explorer again.

It might help to know what spyware it is specifically. Any pop-ups or names given.

Get a thumb drive, stick it in another computer and download:

    1. Malwarebytes antimalware
    2. Spybot search and destroy

put it in your computer and do a full scan with both.

Man, I got a massive spyware infection just yesterday. And I use firefox.

OP don't worry about what browser you use, worry about what links you click and what garbage you install.

Personally I'd reinstall windows, if you have no data to lose or its stored on seperate media, its always fun having a clean desktop and speedy windows.

HijackThis is a good place to start. Unfortunately, it's not a real antispyware tool, it's a surgeon's scalpel. It'll help you do some exploration and cut a few things out - if you identify them first. Unfortunately the latest cocktails of spyware can't be completely cured with HijackThis, since they do terribly nasty things like overwrite your beep.sys driver.

Also, many new spyware cocktails actively prevent you from running HijackThis, so if nothing happens when you double-click it, try renaming it to "hjt.exe" or "furries.exe" and then running it. If you post a log here, we can at least try to figure out what you have.
