A total waste of my time. I have never seen more weird freaks in one place at one time (myself obviously not included). The total lack of social conduct was plainly evident. In fact, the best part of the entire show was when WoW:WotLK did not play because they were switching the server. EVE was terrible, as well as Spore. And I cannot beileve Bungie even bothered to show up.
The worst part was the Rooster Teeth Panel. Those people have no sense of style or taste in comedy. Also, Suck it Blue!
Disclamer: If you cannot tell that this is complete and total sarcasm, you lose 14 internets. PAX is the best event in the entire galaxy. And you had better beileve it.
Day one was great. I met alot of kind people at valve waiting in the Left 4 Dead line (Which by the way is mindblowing.) Overall great vibe and cant wait till tomorrow.
Agreed. Only complaint I have was the fixation with the beach ball (I did however take part in it.... shame) and the fact that the B.O. level reach OVER 9000!!!
It was fun but I find myself having a lot of extra time to spend unlike last year. I don't know why, maybe because I know where everything is and can get to places faster or we had more people or less space last year for moving around quickly.
Overall it was/ is good (planning on heading back out in a couple minutes). Most of my day was spent in line for the Smash tourney cause of technical difficulties... so that kind of sucked. I was sandwiched between two awkward anti-socialites, so I didn't get to chat with anyone while waiting
Anyone up for meeting up tonight or possibly tomorrow? Also, anyone know of any parties/ get togethers this weekend (including tonight)?
I am enjoying Day 1, but I have my concerns. Is PAX getting too big? I got shut out of a couple panels today, even though I showed up early, and things just seem a little more "impersonal" this year. I'm still having fun here, but when this thing hit 100K attendees, I don't know if I still will.

I'm glad I made it to the RoosterTeeth panel.
Those guys were awesome.
Also, just for future reference, I was the guy who pointed out that Starbucks was already filled with zombies.
That got some laughs/hilarious response from Geoff.
Also, I got an autograph and Picture with Wil Wheaton.
He is unbelieveably awesome.
I liked the exhibition hall and talking to vendors/booth-folk, but whenever I tried to talk to regular people, it was awkward. I don't think it's me, I'm a relatively nice guy. The workers and everyone were great. Near the end of the day I even got about 30 minutes of fun Pictochat in before someone drew a wang. (Earlier in the day, you couldn't turn on Pictochat without everyone being "original" and drawing a penis).
I'll redouble my efforts tomorrow. I'd like to accomplish some actual boardgaming, some PSP multiplayer (Wipeout!) and some console multiplayer. Also looking forward to second helpings of the Exhibitor's Hall.
Blah. 1-up panel sucked for me. I was stuck in back, and I was too short to see over people's heads. I thought for sure they'd get a real room this year. Boy was I surprised when it was that damn corner "theater" again. The conference rooms on the sixth floor would have totally taken care of this. I don't know why those aren't opened up to PAX.
-pictochat SUCKED. apparently since there are waaaay too many DSes i could never get a good pictochat connection. part of why i bought it was for pax hijinks. color me disappointed
-swag was good, i brought a backpack to carry all my crap but the first thing i got was a left4dead poster which isn't very backpack friendly. so i had to carry around a swag bag anyways.
-tf2 tournament was kind of disorganized. i got knocked out 1st round
-exhibition hall was overwhelming. today i just wandered around but tomorrow i'll wait in line for demos.
-i threw down 15 bucks to get access to this 'lounge' with bawls and water. but the drinks were room temperature and they ran out of water. god DAMNIT.
-BRAWNDO wtf?! bring your own cup?
-i got my ass handed to me in tetrisDS
-can't wait for tomorrow.

1) When did pax become a convention about standing in lines for line fanciers (PAX: THE LINENING) because I did not get the memo.
2) BRAWNDO is not very good. By the time I got there they had tiny dixie cups, but the way it was fizzing up I think it was losing all the carbonation (maybe it's better if it's not flat?) SHESH GUYS JUST GIVE THE CAN. (I mean I would like to like it, it's got what plants crave after all)
Beyond disappointed in day 1, I'm hoping tomorrow there will be less people. plain and simple, the massive amount of people made for a horrible experience. I will NOT be going next year if they do not do something about the crowding. The lines were atrocious and trying to even move from one area to another was so rediculous!
The Swag was lamer than lame, a bunch of worthless post card size ads and leaflets. YAY!
A few lame posters that I would never ever put on my wall due to the massive size of the ad on the front. Like I'd forget what friken game it was! They don't realize that if they actualy gave us somthing awesome we would be 10 times more excited about the game! I just throw out the garbage ads they pawn off on me as it is.
The events were so crowded it was all the poor booth people could do to keep it eve somewhat chaotic...
The DS lounge was impossible to get a game on, pictochat was kids yelling penis over and over. The wifi didn't even work in the c lounge, it would just hang at the testing connection, got home and it is working fine on my connection. No one had the nerve to ask around to see who was playing what and when i yelled out certain games people just stared at me funny. or commented that my dethklok shirt was rad.
The tournaments were ALL completely full. I was there in the uber opening line and as soon as I got to the front I tried to sign up for COD4 or any of the tournements and EVERY singe one was full with a long waiting list... even for tomorrow! I couldn't believe it. I wanted to get in the cod4 tourney bad... major disappointment. Like I'm really going to show up an hour early for a way longshot chance of getting into a spot...
the only truely awesome thing was the sega Bleach Dark Souls DS game. It blew my freakin mind! 44 characters! man, coming out in oct. stoked. They were super pissed when i showed them my DS with the new Bleach: the 3rd Phantom running on it (the new final fantasy tactics like bleach game on my m3real, it even had been translated to be playable lol.) They freaked out and started whispering to each other and running around talking to their other workers. I laughed and kept playing Dark Souls lol.
Some of the game were cool but there were so many freakin people you couldn't get more than 1 min on anything without feeling guilty cause there was 50 people behind you!
The setup of the place was LAME, they had ZERO arrow signs or anything, just a layout map every so often. Confiusing as all hell. I couldn't find hardly anything. I missed most every speaking even there was...
The Brawndo people... absolute morons... no freakin cups... then they wouldn't give out the cans! They expect us to make a cup out of some swag or cup our hands for our little sample? I'll never buy it simply to bring them to bankruptcy sooner... people that stupid shouldnt be in business anyway.
VERY few good prizes to "win" and to win them was a major production. Everyone should be at least one or 2 decent items of swag at these shows. Id bet the vast majority got nothing but garbage and sat in lines all day for chaotic booths and running around missing every event they tried to get to because by the time you found it it was over!
PAX08 day 1 = lame
PAX08 day 2 i hope will be better. I just hope the number of people is much lower, i can't handle another day like today...
Starstew! We chatted via pictochat! My husband and I are meeting Omeganaut Steve and his +1 Ali tomorrow at noon at the Westlake center food court. Join us if you like!

Way too crowded. I feel for the staff and the enforcers, people got screwed if they showed up and stood in the "line room" unless you got there at 9am.
From the get go you could tell the venue was not setup in anticipation for the sheer volume of folks who came in the door. If you showed up only an hour or so early you got screwed by being shoved into the massive "line room". This room (easily the 2nd biggest room next to the main hall) basically snaked you into one door and back out the door next to it into the same room. What you find out after the line room and being herded down that long narrow hallway is that if you showed up late (say around 2:30 to 2:45) you could bypass the line room and walk right into the exhibit hall. Even though the people cued up in the line room were still working their way through. Great way to reward those who showed up early!
Also, does everyone have to be so freaking rude? Pushing, shoving, cutting in line, hogging bean bags. I was even pushed by an enforcer twice so he could get a look at some game screen near the Fallout booth for 5 seconds. People would dominate demo games in the hall for 30 mins or more with no regard to other people waiting. Is this how your parents raised you people? Perhaps it's a side affect of the overcrowding, I know I am tempted to start pushing people around and being rude too just to see what I want but I will try to use some restraint and remain polite.
Only panel I got to was "Managing Online Communities" which appeared to have no agenda so I left after the first 15 mins. Once they complete the "Behind the Actor" schtick and I realized they had no real plan.
Signage and maps sucked. Some "you are here" markers, arrows pointing the way to main areas and list of events outside panel rooms would go a long way to helping here.
Here is to hoping tomorrow is better. I think I am going to show up a bit late this time. I refuse to stand in that room again.
seriously wtf was with those morons... yay, a bad drawing of a penis... I think that PAX is turning into the next E3 like event after comicon. It's growing huge and it's gotten out of control. There needs to be population limits next year for sure. I simply won't go again if they don't. I don't find standing in lines for 8 hrs for a few glimpses of games I can see online and a few postcard sized ads to be an enjoyable day.
They have WAY too much stuff going on. Instead of 15 crappy events why not 4 or 5 great events?
It might be time for a change in venue as well. I know... the Wa state convention center is in a great location and is a cool site but if they want to pack these kinds of people in there it's not gonna fly at the convention center any more... I was literally yelling at people to get the hell out of the aisles today I was getting so frustrated, I'm not the type to do that...
It's just as bad for media. We can't get into some of the events to legitimately cover them because there's no pre-planning for media queues. There's not actually that many of us. What was the point of getting a media/VIP badge to interview people if we can't get into the events to do so?

I had a awesome time, Got to talk with Chris Taylor at Pre-pax Dinner. Rocked out for 4 hours at the concerts (FYI Freeze pop was amazing and we have video of everything) Went to the Rooster Teeth panel, got the whole crowd to go OOOOO (If you were there I asked the question about the Pax tickets :P)
The booths were crazy but I managed to pick up a PAX08 Mouse.
Hell even in the lines we had fun, ran into a bunch of friends and just dicked around.
Also, Apparently I look like Moe Fwacky, because about 7 people asked my if I was Moe ^.^

this is what you do when you don't have enough to go around:
raise the price from 0 to 1-2 bucks. and then give out samples in the dixie cups.
and get a damn cooler. my thirst can't be mutilated at room temperature. even with electrolytes.
