So, I'm going to Dragoncon tomorrow for the first time and I'm leaving from the Asheville area. I know how to get to Atlanta from my location, but I have no idea where in Atlanta that I'm going.
I'm assuming that the convention itself takes place in the host hotels marked out in the map on that link...but where am I going to pick up a 1-day pass? I guess that's my main question.
Summary: Dragoncon newbie has no idea where he's suppose to go to pick up a 1-day pass. Can anyone thats been there tell me how this works? Thank you!
My cousin went with a few of her friends; she better bring me back some cool swag!
There are quite a few shady characters in Atlanta, but I'm sure it's pretty much the same in any major city. My college is in Atlanta, and once while I was there I had to go to a smaller neighborhood to attend an exhibition. As soon as I got out of my car a guy came up and asked if I wanted to buy some pot. When I said no, he then asked "How about a rock?"
Oh! Speaking of which, it might be smarter to park at a MARTA station and ride the train in. Get off at Peachtree Center and you'll come up right by the Hyatt and the Marriott. Most of the non-downtown stations have free parking; I know the Brookhaven/Oglethorpe University station has a huuuuuuuge lot.
Just to clarify, I'm right in thinking the hotels are where the convention is, yes?
And on a completely unrelated note: I'm totally going to try to arm wrestle Kevin Sorbo.

Try not to be irritating to any of the guests. Remember, for every "cute" idea you have, they're dealing with thousands of other fans with the same idea.

You may be speaking for some of them. For others, though, conversely, they will be glad anyone still even cares enough about them to want to arm wrestle them. =p
Thanks for all your help guys! I got there okay. I found out that Sean Astin takes himself way too seriously, that the cast of Firefly are pretty awesome, got hit on by George Takei and given worldly wisdom by a cracked-up homeless person that managed to wander into one of the convention hotels. I also fist-bumped Dr. McNinja.
I'd give the experience two thumbs up and look forward to spending the *entire* weekend there next year. ^_^

Atlanta is lousy with geeks. Lousy.
To technically give advice, there are a lot of panhandlers down there. A LOT. Be careful and don't look them in the eye. Lest they get to shankin'.
