Conver Switch into a Router?

Is there any firmware that lets me accomplish this? Can it even be done?

    Not for general consumer switches, no. But if you can find one, be really sure to tell me.

    Layer-3 switches do exist that have a set of routing functions built-in, but these are generally high-end and expensive enterprise products.

    Routers are basically computers. Standard switches just repeat signals basically.

    Well, generally no, you can't convert a switch to a router.

    Both routers and switches manage network traffic intelligently, the difference being that a switch switches packet data over a LAN, whereas a router does the same thing, except across multiple LANs or a WAN, often acting as gateways.

    In that regard, there's usually additional hardware inside a router, making a purely software upgrade mostly impossible. Assuming you're using off-the-shelf home equipment.
