Selling jewellery

Okay, so.

I have a bracelet that has been appraised at a lot. Diamonds and white gold, awesome and nice, yadda yadda.

Being fucking broke, I want to sell it, and not get ripped off. What is the best way to go about doing this? I work at a pawn shop, and I know our rates are atrociously low for taking stuff like that in, so I can't do that. Is EBay or Craigslist a good way to do things? Should I try to sell it to a professional jewellers? Do they even buy from people?

I think your best bet would be ebay with a reserve price. That way you don't have to give it up for a fraction of the value if it doesn't get bids.
Second choice would be craigslist. Again, it let's you set your sell price, but it doesn't have the protection that ebay has, which you probably want if you're looking to sell high ticket items.

Going to a proffessional jeweler might be an option, but they'll likely only pay you the value of the metal and stones, which is likely to be substantially less then the piece is actually worth.

You might talk to the appraiser and ask him/her if they can recomend a consignment dealer who could sell it for you. They'll take a cut of the profits of course, but they'll likely have contacts that will pay more then you could get online.

You're probably not going to be able to sell it for anything close to what it's worth on Ebay for the simple reason that a sensible person would be very worried about fraud, unless there's some sort of independent appraisal. Prudent people don't buy expensive jewelry from private sellers for a number of reasons.

Consignment is probably your best bet--most cities have places that specialize in jewelry consignment, and provide the verification of authenticity that most people will want. Especially with diamonds, since synthetic fakes (commonly called moisanite) will pass basic tests for diamonds.

Selling shit with diamonds in it means that it's probably not worth anywhere near the appraised value.
