Knitting, not just for grandmas?

So on Gabe's "Marissa's Bunny" post on Aug. 27 there was definitely a picture of Marissa's Bunny next to some cuddly looking PA characters. Twisp, Catsby, and the Fruit Fucker all appear to be knitted (or perhaps crocheted?), and I was wondering if there were any patterns for making your own Fruit Fucker doll at home.

CRAFT(From the guys that produce MAKE) have some articles on creating plush and knit creatures. No plans for the fruit fucker but you might be able to figure out what you need to do from there.

They're crocheted -- it's a technique called amigurumi (Japanese, shockingly enough ;-)) which is almost always single crochet, worked mostly in spirals, to make the various shapes. Then you sew on the face, etc.
I knit a ton, but my crochet is really limited, so I can't offer much beyond that.

I would think it wouldn't be too hard to figure out a pattern for it though -- you need to make a cylinder for the bottom, figure out a dome of some sort for the top, a tiny cylinder for the antenna (with a bobble of some sort with red yarn at the top), and then a small half-circle piece for the...uh... juicer. Add a couple of bobbles on the side of the cylinder for where the arms go. Other than that, it's just sewing on the face and then make some chains for the arms and legs.
If you can find a pattern involving a cylinder and one involving a ball of some sort, you should be able to wing the rest of it.

You can also check out Ravelry.com, which is a social networking site for knitters. There are some gamers on there that knit and post patterns. I don't personally knit, but my wife does and she found some neat patterns there, like this Trogdor.

My wife also made a pattern for a weighted companion cube.
