    this is a fantastic browser.

I'm impressed. Any developers look at that "inspect element" feature yet?

Yes I've been keeping an eye on this Chrome thing, I will try it out at here at work when I get the fucknuts in the IT department to UNBLOCK THE GOOGLE DOWNLOAD PAGE LOLZ. I'm a fucking web developer, yet IT still shits themselves every time I tell them I need to install a new web browser.

"But why? Our default build here is IE6"
"Yes, that's great, but you don't seem to be understanding that I need access TO ALL BROWSERS TO TEST SHIT"

Did you mention that it is free and is not spyware and from google?

Until I mentioned that, my high school did not have firefox on it's computers. Well, aside from the google part.

Oh that isn't really the issue.

I am just pissed that our almighty web proxy system blocks any web address that fits the category "download" or "free download", which is fair enough. It stops the dumb shits from downloading crapware.

Except that it is part of my job to download programs on a regular basis.

    Idiots.

EDIT: yet forums.pennyarcade.com isn't blocked. Haha i can maek poast all day but not access sites in order to do my job.

No we don't use Vista here. Haha we're not that cutting-edge. Still on XP.

Vista is a bitch for web development anyway, as you cannot install IE6 on it. Sure, you can run a VM with XP and launch IE6 that way, but it's hella clunky. And considering that like 40-50% (or something similar) of IE users are still on v6, it's still kinda important to test for IE6.

Also IE8 Beta2 has some nifty new features which are pretty cool.

Looks like MS is somewhat serious about catching up in the browser battle.

Not sure how the whole "Security" thing is with IE8 (other than the new "inPrivate" browsing feature), but I have to admit, it's actually quite a usable web browser these days. Beta2 still has some issues rendering certain HTML elements, but it is leaps and bounds ahead of the ie6 days, and you will actually get pretty similar rendering results to Firefox, which takes a whole load off when testing stuff.

    What? No!

The very notion is preposterous. Preposterous I say!

I want everything to be exactly the same, all the time, no matter what I do! How dare you suggest I need to get used to something before being able to accept and use it proficiently!

Over 80% of my visitors still use IE 6. IE 5 users make up a bigger portion than Firefox, Safari, and Opera combined D:

70% of our website visitors use a version of IE. Most common is IE6, then 7 not too far behind.

Something like 12% of our website visitors use Firefox.

It's aimed at dentists. Smart people in general, but they've spent 10 years in school learning that "new = bad". Getting most of them to use computers at all is a challenge, getting them to change browsers is damn near impossible.

Any site that attracts a fairly broad, mainstream audience. You will find that most people still use IE across the web.
