The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
The beta went live yesterday. The game itself is awesome however it's buggy as hell, with massive load times to get into matches and often lots of lag. When you do finally get into a match the game is alot of fun and I believe there is a patch coming next week to fix alot of the issues folks are having.
In the meantime, anyone else from PA in the beta?
When the game is finally released at retail it will include a pretty awesome headset:
Spoilered for The hUg3
Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today announced that the Bluetooth® Headset for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) system will be available in North America beginning October 14. Designed exclusively with the PS3 system experience in mind, the Headset leverages superior voice technology and other advanced features to enhance voice chat during intense online multiplayer gaming. The Bluetooth Headset will be available initially as part of the SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation bundle for $59.99 (MSRP). It will be available as a standalone peripheral shortly thereafter for $49.99 (MSRP).
Featuring innovative features and advances in voice technology, the Headset brings next-generation voice chat features to PS3 system and expands on SCEA’s legacy as one of the first companies to popularize Voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology within a console videogame through SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs for PlayStation®2 system. With a gamer-friendly design, the Headset is compact, sleek, and ergonomic, fitting comfortably on each ear and featuring an easily accessible mute button. The included charging cradle allows for convenient charging and storage of the headset. The Headset also is compatible with most Bluetooth-enabled cell phones and audio devices.
A PS3 system software update slated for release this fall will unlock several advanced features that will differentiate the Headset from any other products currently available.
The key feature enabled by the firmware update is High-Quality (HQ) mode*, which utilizes advanced wireless technologies and the Headset's dual-microphone design to enable clear and wide-band wireless voice communication with the PS3 system.
Following is a list of Headset features that will be added following the PS3 firmware update.
* High-Quality (HQ) mode – This delivers high quality online voice chat and high bandwidth voice recording and playback, which is currently not available with any other Bluetooth Headset. For future PS3 games, HQ Mode also can enable or enhance advanced in-game features:
o Voice command (the ability to direct AI characters using voice)
o Voice animation (your in-game character mimics you during voice chat)
o Proximity chat (high quality voice playback in full surround sound to match all of the sound effects and voiceovers in the game)
* When docked in the supplied charging cradle, the Headset works as a desktop microphone while charging
* Automatic pairing of the Headset with PS3 system via a USB cable
* Exclusive PS3 on-screen indicator displays connection status, battery charge level, speaker volume level and microphone mute status at a push of a button
* High-Quality (HQ) mode is only available on PS3 system, and not with other Bluetooth enabled cell phones or devices. HQ mode may not be available for certain existing PS3 system software titles at the time of the Headset’s release this fall.
The headset itself will cost 49.99 bought alone, the bundle (including game) will cost 59.99 meaning that you effectively get Socom for 10 bucks. Not a bad deal.
If that's bundled with SOCOM, that might bump that up to a purchase new and early. My current bluetooth headset blows.

So for 10 bucks extra you get SOCOM, which is looking to be shaping up to be a good game as it is. Not a bad deal.

This game is really really fun. I was a huge fan of Socom 1 and 2 and this definitely feels like Socom 2 HD.
I played a game last night on the Large variant of Crossroads at Night. It was super intense. Changing the time of day to night totally changed the dynamic of the map - and there's a few "dark spots" you can hide in and be pretty hidden.

I think infinite respawns is a good way to learn the controls of the game, but be aware that when playing with no respawns the game plays very differently.
I found that with no respawns more of the map gets used particularly areas that allow the player to snipe folks below.
Socom. The only game (currently announced), that I would buy a PS3 for.
Seriously, if this game turns out good, I won't have any choice but to buy a PS3. Socom II is my favourite online shooter of all time. I sunk SO many hours into Socom II it was unhealthy. I was ranked 8th before they reset the leaderboards.
I almost hope that this game fails simply so that I don't have to shell out the cash for a PS3

Based on my playtime with the beta....
You'll be buying a PS3.

Dang. I read this title as "Second Confederation" and was getting excited at the prospect of being able to march upon the south once again and finally burning it to the ground.
So, got this downloaded and patched, customized my dudes, found a game, and am now sitting here for five minutes waiting for the match to start as the little loading wheel spins into infinity. I'm guessing they didn't fix those problems yet with that patch?
They're working on a patch to get the loading times fixed.
Also, you're done downloading already? Christ, I've been watching the SOE downloader for 2 1/2 hours now and am only at 65%.
I guess that previous patch only fixed some other things they were having problems with then. And yeah, PSN seems to have varying speeds for everyone; I got it downloaded in about an hour give or take.
Managed to get into a few games, and it is pretty interesting. Gotta give it some time though, there's a lot to take in and a lot to learn.
So I downloaded the 1.3 patch, game is playing much much better now. Only had loadtime issues once in a two hour period. Can't wait for the full version in a few weeks.
Gameplay is awesome, one thing I'm a little bummed about is that looking at the levels they've announced there doesn't really seem to be any outdoor or jungle themed maps... bummer, those were always my favorite.

That's exactly what I thought.
I know it's Eurogamers, but I think the keys will be international.
Anyone have a key that they are willing to share? I would love to play this and if anyone is willing to share it would be appreciated

Depends on the mode.
You can turn on Infinite respawns, but Socom 1 and 2 were "get shot once and day" so most old-timers choose to play that way.

I should keep an eye on this.

My PSN ID is Bamelin. Feel free to add me.
In the mean time, until I get a new one, does anyone feel kind enough to send me an invite to participate? since you are allowed two invites.
