A game to lose myself in

I am looking for a game that I can lose myself in. I am sick of Oblivion so that is out. I have a 360, wii, and a Mac. So please give me some recommendations. Thanks in advanced.

    Wii - Endless Ocean.

Shadow of the Colossus is another that comes to mind, indeed the first that comes to mind, but it's only on PS2, so you're missing out.

Twilight Princess if you haven't already. Okami. I don't know when it's ever fucking going to come out, but eventually there will be a Mac version of Aquaria, and that game is exactly what the doctor ordered.

Do you have an Intel Mac / mind buying Windows? That would increase your options a lot. If you like RPG's, KOTOR of course is a must-play, as are the oldies like Fallout and Baldur's Gate 2 and of course everyone raves about Planescape, but I haven't had the opportunity to play it yet. Fallout especially - the first CRPG I ever played where I felt I could truly do whatever I wanted and not be punished/limit my options, while being driven along by a compelling story.

I hear Mass Effect is good.

You won't "lose yourself in it", but I find that Burnout Paradise on the 360 is very compelling. It's extremely open-ended, and if you don't want to stress yourself out with actual races and missions, just go around and try to find all smash signs and crash boards. For once, sailing between missions is the best part.

You've played Oblivion, but Morrowind is also good to lose yourself in.

You could try World of Warcraft. If you're the type of person who gets invested in the lore of the gameworld WoW could keep you busy for weeks/months/years.
Also Assassin's Creed on the 360 is a great game as long as you take the time to explore and don't rush through it.

Something long and deep. I'd recommend a JRPG as those are usually more movie-like and plot driven than the choose your own adventure style of American RPGs, but you're going to have to put up with the culture difference on what defines cool characters (gender androgyny, angst). Have you played Lost Odyssey for the 360?

Maybe an oldie but goodie to catch you up to speed on future releases, such as Diablo II or Fallout II?

Another vote for Okami. There's a part where you feel like that's it, you've reached the end of the game. Surprise, you're barely starting! Plus, the art is incredible and you can just sit and enjoy the picture on your screen for ages.

Oh, I've just thought of a game that might let you lose yourself in it, but not in the same way as most immersive and epic games:

    The Incredible Machines.

Right now, I highly recommend Fallout and Fallout 2. I got the pair for $10 years ago, they're probably so cheap as to be free by now. If you get into Fallout 1, you'll most certainly like Fallout 2, and Fallout 3 is shaping up to be a good game. You could easily explore Fallout 1 and especially Fallout 2 for the next two months, and if you liked them, spring for Fallout 3 and lose yourself for a while more.

I'd definitely recommend Civilization 4, you could spend hundreds of hours in that game if you were so inclined.

Someone posted Twilight Princess, and i agree. If you don;t want to pay as much though, get Ocarina of Time from virtual console. its cheaper and a much better game.

GTA 4 is also good, but any 360 owner probably has that already :)

Civ4 is indeed a good game to lose yourself in. Set it on easy if you don't want to be challenged, and just have fun watching the world evolve and your civilization propser.

I can't vouch for it just yet, but if you've got a mac then Spre deserves a mention

EVE, I'm pretty certain that can run on Macs
Spore doesn't come out for a few more days *twitch* soon my precious, soooooon
Civ 4 is awesome, the Civ Rev demo (you can download for free on the 360) made it look pretty good too (though I wish it was on PC... civ games work best on pc for me)
and, though a touch dorky/silly, I -really- enjoyed Sims 2 Castaway on the Wii. Doesn't take a long time to play through, but it was darned fun

While different than any of the other games mentined here, I've currently lost myself in Lego Star Wars II.

    But I'm weird like that.

If you really want to loose yourself I'm going to recommend MMORPG's (people dis WoW but it is still king) and Civ 4. Those things eat time like you would not believe, and you'll enjoy it too much to care.

Yeah, MMORPG's are really the way to go if you truly want to lose yourself. WoW is indeed a great game, I think that it become a little overrated though and I only say that to justify buying WAR (so leave me be). If you aren't really into MMO's than I would have say FPS. Halo 3 anyone?

The game I lost myself most in was BioShock. Some others off of me glancing back at my shelf include World In Conflict, the much mentioned Civ4 ( I play with the FfH mod....), and STALKER.

Burnout never crossed my mind, but you are so right. For the optimum 'oh shit how the hell have five hours gone by' experience, play online freeburn challenges.

Mass Effect!!! I'm on my first play through and I can't wait to go through it again with a totally different character.

GTA 4 is pretty immersive as well.

One game that surprised me with how much fun it is is Conan. Definitly give It a rent
