[Tough Games] And a Graveyard of Broken Controllers
For me I have times when I get mad at certain parts in certain games and I lose it. Call it an anger problem, but some games are just rough.
When I was a kid the first game I remember really getting angry over was Another World for SNES. And for a 5 year old the game was nuts. Cutscenes, parts where you had to THINK, tough game never beat it though. I might buy it on VC if I ever get the chance.
I love Golden Sun, but Dullahan from Golden Sun 2 was horribly overpowered. I tried the entire fight to not use Djini but alas I summon rushed him to the end of the Earth and ended his reign of terror on my cartridge. I want GS3 now! :x
Something more current is in Kingdom Hearts 2. Where
Xigbar is constantly shooting at you with those pink bullets in the most tiny square ever and it's impossible to dodge.
I'm at level 50 and still cannot beat him. I want to finish it so bad.
I usually don't throw or hit things because I'll probably end up breaking something expensive. The most I've done is bruise my hand hitting it against the arms of my chair I think.
Ikaruga was incredibly hard, but I never broke a controller because of it. Mainly because it was funny how many bullets were flying at you.
Geometry Wars 2 had me bite my 360 controller, and now there are teeth marks on my main controller.
Mario Kart Wii almost had me toss my Wii-Remote against the wall, but I shut off the game and walked away.
I know I've gone through MULTIPLE N64 controllers on Killer Instinct Gold. FUCK YOU GARGOS!!! LAUGHING AND REGENERATING YOUR HEALTH?! FUCK YOU! OH ITS SO FUNNY TO KNOCK ME IN THE AIR EVERY TIME I GET CLOSE ISNT IT?! *breaks keyboard*
skate was a very frustrating game, because the controls - while very fluid and fun - are not precise. it's very hard to do the complex tricks you want. I yelled a lot.
Recently, Bionic Commando: Rearmed made me shove my face in a pillow and bellow so loudly that I hurt my throat.

Halo 3 keeps causing me to chew through controllers. I get so pissed off I take it out on the controller. That and microsoft makes shitty controllers that wear out too easily. Does anyone else get a fine white powder around their thumbsticks?
Battletoads on NES - caused me to throw controllers, though usually just at the floor. My older brother threw the controller at our wooden TV stand and put a good sized dent in it.
Most EA Sports games - leading by a goal / touchdown with little time left? The computer automatically becomes god-like and ties or wins the game.
Mario Kart Wii - I've slammed the Wii Wheel into my couch a few times, mostly relating to Rainbow Road and the fiery mountain stage whose name I'm now forgetting. Trying to unlock the advanced ghost on Rainbow Road was incredibly frustrating for me, especially the one time that I would have broken the time with ease and then I fell on the very last curve.
Friend of mine broke a Tandy keyboard over his knee over FF11. Then some other keyboards over some other games, but those were cheap pieces of shit that I think were meant to break. He's also destroyed several N64 controllers and a NES controller or two, but those were completely justified. N64 was a pivotal smash match in a tournament that he was legitimately robbed of the win in that match, and the NES controllers were Contra.
we're both pretty good at contra. He's beaten the first one three times in a row, and any of you that have done it more than once know that it gets harder as you go. Stuff takes more hits; that kinda deal. It's just so goddamned frustrating when you know you can beat the game on one life and you just die. Over and over.
I came in here just to post this, I think I actually cried as a kid.
Limed for truth.
Sometimes, sometimes I still cry myself to sleep because of that game.
I don't think I've ever seen the 2nd level. I remember going to Dave and Buster's and telling my friends that I will continue to play as long as I can until I beat the first level.
I ran out of credits.

F-Zero on Gamecube is also a bitch.
I never made it past that snowy level in Super Ghouls n Ghosts, the one just after that bitch of a level thats like you're inside a stomach. I feel I may never finish the game and it will sit there forever on my shelf mocking me.
I remember going over to a friend's house and we were going to play a game on his snes (I think it may have been Contra) and I picked up the second controller and it was covered in deep teeth marks from his brother.

It's almost worth it for the music though.

This thread has much potential to be awesome, but it needs more stories like urahonky's and multifarious's. I still cannot stop laughing about urahonky biting his controller.
The one game that's really gotten to me recently is Jumper. I know at one point my wife came into the computer room with a concerned look because I was shouting "COCK! COCKS! COCKS!" over and over and eventually it turned into some sort of weird a capella jazz thing.

It was either:
Bite the controller
Throw the controller
Scream angrily
Punch my friend
And since I didn't like the outcomes of the last 3... #1 won.
I don't usually take my anger out on controllers. But, there was this one time, Shenmue II on the dreamcast. I got stuck at some part where you had to run from some fat guy and jump out the top story of an apartment building. It was litteraly the shitiest set of QTE's ever assembled, I tried for days to beat it. Even invited my friends over to give it a shot. I finaly gave up on it for about a month.
One day I decided to give it another shot and made it farther than I ever had before only to *miss* the last set of button mashes. I dunno what came over me but I threw the controller without thinking as hard as I could and it nailed the top of the dreamcast. The DC still worked, but the disc was dead, and to this day I have never beat Shenmue II. I really enjoyed those games too, but because of that I'm not stuck in "Waiting on shenmue 3 purgatory", you win some ya lose some.
30 posts and only one mention of F-Zero? I thought F-Zero GX was the hard game.
But there's a difference between a game thats a fun challange, with a feeling of accomplishment when you beat it. And absolute bullshit, like QTEs
I dunno, I rented F-Zero GX knowing nothing about it, just because I remembered many hours of enjoyment on F-Zero for the SNES. I played it for like half an hour and then moved on to something I could actually enjoy.

Friend of mine bit her GBA. There's still a tooth mark in it.
I one snapped a PSX pad clean in half (forget why). I recently had to discard my original Dual Shock 2 due to years of bearing my frustrations across my collection (mostly Armored Core and Monster Hunter though).
I've actually destroyed copies of Armored Core 3 and Tales of the Abyss through physical violence. Still need to replace Tales I'm honestly surprised I haven't punched through the casing of my PS2 yet.
Anyway, if you're a machine you'd best follow C3PO's advice around me.
Did anyone play pod racer for n64? That game was infuriating. You'd be going in first place on the final lap and you'd slightly clip the wall and just explode and then you're in 11th place and there's no way to catch up.
Devil May Cry 3 broken my PS2 controller. I didn't, the game did.
I didn't throw it out of frustration. I didn't slam it against a wall. I didn't even bite it or drop it while throwing up my hands in frustration.
It broke because the game was forcing me to play too hard.
The little plastic springy bit on the R2 button shattered and sent tiny pieces of plastic rattling around my controller because I was switching weapons so much during combos. It broke while I was switching to the Beowulf gauntlets, ending a beautiful god knows how many hit SSStylish combo in which I was obliterating everything in the room.
seriously guys, yelling into a pillow is really helpful.
my girlfriend is both entertained and a little unsettled by watching me when i play Bionic Commando's challenges.
Yelling into a pillow works great. I feel a lot better after doing it.
That reminds me, my girlfriend gets pissed at me when I get pissed at a video game. Thus causing me to get even more pissed that she's pissed at me, and I generally end up storming out of the room.
Only to come back later to apologize for my actions, and find out she's still pissed... Which throws me back into the circle.
Last time this topic came up somebody confessed to having alienated his girlfriend from gaming after she witnessed him calling Princess Peach a "Faggot Jew Lizard" while playing MK.
That story still makes me laugh, especially if I try and imagine the look of horror on the girlfriend's face.

Oh holy shit. I didn't see that. FJL is the best phrase ever.

I still have it actually, played it last year with my friend for a few hours, I think we got to level 2.

Bionic Commando Rearmed almost made me do that, but damn those controllers are expensive.

Like Ghouls and Ghosts with russians.

This is almost a haiku.
Of course, I was an angry kid back then. :P
I miss the Sega Master System games like none other.
