Gears of War Chainsawing

Okay. What the hell. I just got Gears of War and I cannot seem to be able to chainsaw these locust bastards. I hold "B" to charge it up and get close to one, but all I get is punched or pushed away and then shot repeatedly.

Is there something I'm missing here? The instruction booklet isn't any more clear. Googling of "how to chainsaw in gears of war" just shows me Youtube videos of people using a glitch to chainsaw themselves.

    If you're damaged at all I don't think you can use the chainsaw.

    Also, make sure you actually have the right weapon equipped.

    Also you have to pull the fire trigger, like a bullet except you swipe with the saw. This might be a silly thing to suggest but if you missed it well it would be very frustrating.

    Yup. Did not know this. Would just stand there with the chainsaw whirring - expecting something to happen.

    Oh. Wow. I just chainsawed my first Locust. That was satisfying. Okay this thread can be locked.

    No, you can be damaged and you don't have to pull the fire trigger. You just have to make sure you don't get shot while revving the saw, or you get stunned - otherwise the game would be way unbalanced. You can do this by sneaking up to Locust or surprising them and so forth.
