freshening up closet

I've got a closet where I'm storing most of my clothes, including a bunch of nice shirts. I want to keep the clothes nice and fresh, and picked up one of those car fresheners, pine scented. Is it all right to put those in the closet? Would it be weird if my clothes started smelling pine-ey all the time?

Also, random quick question, how many times are you *allowed* to wear business casual shirts and pants before getting them washed? I generally wear nice shirts twice (t-shirt underneath) before washing, hanging them up nicely after I get home. I figure I'm sitting in front of a computer most of the time at work, doesn't really get sweaty / dirty.

Don't use car air fresheners. Just put a box of baking soda in your closet and it will keep any odd smells away.

Whatever you do, don't use a car air freshener! You'll just end up smelling like one, which is bad. Your clothes aren't supposed to smell like anything. You shouldn't have to put any sort of air fresheners in your closet to keep your clothes nice and fresh. They should come out of the dryer (or back from the cleaners) nice and fresh already, and they'll stay that way as long as you're not hanging dirty clothes back up.

If you do use a dry cleaner, don't leave clothes in the plastic bags--they will definitely take on a plastic-y smell.

The only thing I would recommend is replacing your clothes hangers with these. They'll keep things fresh and they also naturally keep moths away from your wool suits.

I for the life of me cannot remember what they are called, but we sold them at Wal Mart. It's some type of carbon air filter, it its self is odorless and does a great job of getting rid of any orders that might pre-exist in your closet.

I like to hang up those sheets of fabric softeners on the clothes hangers. They keep the shirts relatively smelling nice and when in there long enough disperses the scent all around instead of one concentrated area. I also stick one or two in my pillow to keep it smelling nice instead of smelling my hair grease and sweat when I go to sleep.

The fabric thing works better in drawers, but I'm satisfied with the results in my closet.

I wear clothes that don't go through anything dirtying up to three times before washing. Your shirts/pants get dirty when you're outside running around a lot, sweating, or things like that. They won't get dirty with you just sitting around in them in a cool, clean environment.

But I'm OCD about underwear. Change underwear everyday. It's totally gross if you don't. o_O

Hahaha...I don't think that's OCD, I think that's just normal. People actually wear underwear multiple days?

Pants I usually wear about three times or so, unless they get visibly dirty somehow. After that they get a little stretched out and saggy anyway. I'll wear jeans at least five or six times. Dress shirts is a maximum of twice, but usually once because it's pretty rare for me to not sweat through my undershirt a little. Suits you basically never have to get cleaned as long as you brush and steam them after wearing. Every so often I'll drop them off for a press only.

Tucking some unused dryer sheets in with your clothes can be a good idea too. Just be sure to take them out before you put the clothes on. I've forgotten to do that before and got asked, "what's that," referring to one coming out of my pant leg.

    I don't change my knickers.
    Ever.

Yeah, I agree about the dryer sheets in the closet. It works nice if you disperse a few in strategic spots around your closet.. just beware that your closet will smell pretty strongly for a few days.
