RAM physically plugged in but not showing up in system

so I've had 2x1GB DDR ram plugged into my computer for a while and it showed me as having 2G in teh system info when I first installed them, but just now I tried playing the WAR! beta and it ran like absolute crap. Then I went and checked the system properties and it says I only have 1 gig of ram, so I looked in my case and I still have 2 1 gig chips plugged in.

    first, reboot and see how much RAM the motherboard is picking up during POST

    Unplug and reseat your memory modules. If they both dont show up in the POST count, either one of your sockets or one of your modules is probably bad. Memory usually has a lifetime warranty, however.

    bah I got gypped.

    I guess it was only 1 gig total and the 2 gigs was from when I had 4 sticks in there on my previous motherboard.

    the labels on the sticks were misleading. they said "1G" on each of the stickers but at teh bottom of the sticker in even smaller print it says "set of 2" so you only get 1 gig if you use them both which I found out when i pulled one and started up with only 1. time to upgrade to DDR2 anyways so I just bought 2 gigs of DDR2.

    You do realize you need a new motherboard that supports ddr2 right?

    my motherboard has 4 slots. 2 for DDR and 2 for DDR2, and yes i know you can't use both at the same time.

    Well that's the first time I've heard of a hybrid motherboard being fully utilized as an upgrade path. Whaddya know.
