I have a reputation of knowing how to fix household items (and perhaps more importantly when to say it's time to call in a professional), and I just fielded a request from a friend who got a recliner second hand. I haven't seen the chair in question yet, but I've been told 'it's in great condition, but needs a cord.' That makes me think the problem is between the reclining handle and the springs, but yeah, I honestly don't know.
I'm waiting to find out what brand it is, but does anyone have suggestions on how to approach recliner repair, or any tips on just how the thing works and how a cord might be involved?
I guess I'm pretty handy.
The one time I dealt with a broken recliner the leg part was stuck up. The back of the chair pulled out of the buttpart easily, which really helped. However... the thing was fucking heavy and a pain in the ass to try to even see into, let alone repair. It was not for me, so I bid thee watch out. Since I was dealing with a jam I was very worried about tension being released on my fingers, maybe that didn't help.

Flip it upside down and rest the arms on a table. That should let you action the foot rest so you can see what is going on. I would think it has an all metal linkage and there would be no cord altho I did see one with a phone in it.
Just be careful sticking you fingers anywhere the mechanism scissors
