Creating a computer filled with Old Awesome

So I recently got a macbook for college that can dualboot. I installed windows. The computer has a cheap intergrated X1300 chip, that can't do... modern that well, so I decided to scour the world for the best old games.

So far I've collected:
  • Tie Fighter
  • Deus Ex
  • Duke Nukem 3D
  • Pirates!
  • Carmeggedon
  • Planetscape: Torment
  • Syndicate (has not stood the test of time...)
  • Shadow Watch
  • Ultima Underworld - The Stygian Abyss (can't get to run)
  • Fallout 1 and 2

So my question is twofold: What widescreen/graphic update/etc mods are out there for these games, and what great games am I missing?

I would recommend Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

    It should run fine...

Just ignore everything in the first post. Or don't. Maybe there are some good games there.

C&C Red Alert 2 is a classic, if you do RTSes.

They're going into open beta soon, but for 5-10 bucks a game, you'll get to download full non-drm games of classic yore, like Fallout 1 & 2, Sacrifice, Shogo and more.

I would also recommend any of Stardock's games (Galactic Civilizations 2 & expansions, Sins of a Solar Empire) as they run excellently on low-end specs.

Galciv is like Civ only with more Gal.

And in this instance, Gal is code for addiction.

Immense periods of time I have sunk into that game and I dont regret any.

At PAX I got Brad Wardell (Creator of Gal Civ & CEO of Stardock) to sign my box. It was great.

Get Doom, Heretic, and Hexen off of Steam and jazz them up with a nifty sourceport like jDoom or zDaemon. You can get iD stuff for super cheap on Steam right now.

Widescreen mod for Torment (also works with Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale)
    It makes Torment look spectacular.

Also I think there is a mod for Deus Ex that ups the resolution on the textures or something but I don't think it makes a huge difference.

Also, check out System Shock 2, X-COM UFO Defense (on Steam, very cheap). Also on Steam are Abe's Oddysee and Exodus which are pretty sweet.

Relentless and Twinsen's Odyssey were solid, really fun games for me. They create a world you can walk into and enjoy with excellent music and sounds and fun gameplay. There is also a cool story that takes you into different locations and to do different things, so it's always showing you something new, but mixed with action elements that you have to get good at to advance.

Master of Orion 2. I always install that game on my laptop. Someone mentioned shogo but it is a great game so I am mentioning it to.

Shadow Warrior if you enjoyed Duke 3d, there both pretty awesome. Also get Blood from monolith which is another old fps. Mechwarrior series

Any game in which you can decapitate a zombie with a pitchfork and then kick its severed head around like a soccer ball while it sprays blood rates as Awesome out of ten.

X1300? That should be able to handle Unreal Tournament 2004.

But if not, it'll surely handle the older Unreal games.

Well it depends on how old school you want to go but here is a few I think still provide great fun.

    Day of the Tentacle
Wing Commander II, III and IV
    Elder Scrolls Arena
    Dungeon Keeper
Civilization (WinCiv - get that version. It let's you view the whole world)
Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed (Porsche 2000). The last good Need for Speed.
Scorched Earth (2 or more players else it's pointless)
The Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy (Very old school text adventure)
    Railroad Tycoon

This thread makes me want to create a "historical" computer. Like find an old 600mHz processor, toss it into a square beige box with a 6gb hard drive and load up Windows 98. Floppy drive, CD with no writer, no USB ports...

I've got a 933Mhz Pentium sitting upstairs ready to roll for games, along with a 450 and a 233 (complete with VooDoo2, woo!) also sitting around doing nothing. AND a 486.

    All ... doing ... nothing ... :(

I kept them with the intention of keeping some solid older machines around for retro gaming, but they're not in a part of the house I like to spend time in, so they've pretty much gone to waste.

    Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II

That is one of my all-time favorite games. Online play in its time was the best, and was the only game you could pick up a lightsaber and slash some dudes.

Make it into a dedicated server for an old game - with the iD Super Pack being on sale, there's a lot of us going back through the classics. :)

Wow, is that Shadow Watch I see in the first post? That really is a neat game once you get past some minor clunkiness in the interface. It has it's own economic tactical flavor.

Sadly since we are the only two people who like that game, I doubt there has been any kind of fan or dev support.
