San Diego 09 - Costume Making

My wife and I are heading to Cali for our delayed honeymoon next year, and one of things we are doing among this trip is going to San Diego Comic-con 09 in full costume. My wife has chosen Zatanna for her outfit, which will be easy considering she wears somewhat normal clothes... but I am going as my man, the one the only, Aquaman. My hair is fairly long, and will be long enough to have the lord of atlantis style beard/hair cut thing going on, but the outfit is what I'm wondering about. To anyone who has made a really good costume, what type of materials would you use for the shirt/belt/pants for this sucka:

i would give mad respect to anyone with the stones to go to a comic convention dressed as namor, regardless of body type. in fact, i would say more respect to the huge fatass who goes as namor.

If you're going to have fish accessories, it should be a giant seahorse to ride.

I think I am going to go classic outfit (orange and green) long hair and beard, and I can't decide between 2 gloves, the harpoon hand, or the water hand.

While I'm at it, are there ANY compelling aquaman solo stories? I know him mainly from television to be honest, but he has been longrunning my favorite character in the various Justice League/Superfriend shows, including his awesomeness in JLU.
