Project Origin is now F.E.A.R. 2: she's baaaaack.

So yes, despite earlier reports that the devs of the original F.E.A.R. had the rights to everything but the name, Project Origin now has the title of what it really is: F.E.A.R. 2.

The ending to the first game ended on a cliffhanger that the mostly lame expansions(Extraction Point, Perseus Mandate) did nothing to answer, and according to the devs of the original, their events didn't happen.

It was playable at PAX, and looked awesome.

Lots of replicants to kill, giant mechs to pilot, and more of everyone's favorite lovable mascot.

Slated for a 2/24/09 release(boo) for 360/PS3/PC(yay).

Oh, and trailers.

I'm having a hard time finding screenshots that do justice to how the game looked in motion, but here's a sample.

It still has the same effects as the original(namely the slowdown ability), though the UI was definitely different.

Have they confirmed whether or not the ultra fantastikawesome shotgun will make an appearance?

This is a game selling feature for me.

Well, the demo build had Replicant rocket-launching warmechs up for grabs, so if there's that, there's bound to be the shotgun.

Seriously though, Alma be damned, the star of the game is the shotgun. That damn gun, combined with the incredible AI of the clone soldiers, made for one hell of a game.

    Here's hoping for a shotgun-mech!

I think the shotgun should be the only weapon in the game. Everything else is just a distraction. Sure, the Penetrator (That's the actualy name as far as I recall) is cool but the shotty takes the spotlight.

Just beat F.E.A.R for the first time last night. More shotgun, please. Possibly the occasional Multi-Rocket Launcher.

So Monolith won their little spat with EA? I am SO glad to hear that.

On the other hand... pilotable mechs? That's sort of lame. Next thing you know, we'll have boss fights like the retarded ending to Perseus Mandate.

But man I am excited. I want to play this game so muuuch.

    FEAR Shotgun+any foe+grenades+slomo=sooo much fun.

I thought it was Vivendi that had the rights to the name?

They did, but sold them off as part of the Actiblizzard merger. Activision basically went through all of Vivendi's assets and tossed most of them into the "do not want" pile.

I skipped the expansions since it seemed they were more of the same.
I loved FEAR but I didn't want to just continue playing the same game.
Hopefully they change things up a bit for FEAR 2.

If there is anyone interested that hasnt checked it out already, you should dig on the 18 minute e3 trailer at http://www.projectorigincommunity.com/media?page=1

I know its an old trailer but damn. i hope the experience is like that. after having played thru fear for the umpteenth time just recently i was prety excited by what i saw. also check out the movie for those puppet master guys. for me this ones going to be a must buy.

Im kinda surprised at the lack of the hype machine for this one. last i checked they said it was coming out in early 2009. I hope this isnt another one that sells crappy due to marketing failure.

ps. i loved the shotgun, i love the shotgun in most games that have one... but the plasma gun for sniping was my favorite in fear.
