Has anyone heard of the recent news of the anti-spore website created by some over zealous christian? The website talks about how the recently released hit title Spore is cleverly implementing the theory of evolution into the minds of young christians. Heres the website http://antispore.com/about/. It's been slow around the office lately and reading the comments on that site has kept me entertained for the majority of the morning. One of my favorites is and i quote "The object of the game is to evolve from a 'spore' into demon-like intelligent space creatures that violently take over the galaxy,". I think it would be great if Penny Arcade could make a comic strip out of this whole fiasco. Feel free to post your thoughts on this.

My girlfriend is convinced this is pretty much like the Sony Defense Force. I'm convinced this is someone that's insanely idiotic.
Edit - I would also change the topic title to "Christians vs. Spore," since Spore isn't the aggressor.

As a Christian, this is ridiculous.
Did the commercial that said, "Do you believe in Creavolutionism?" strike a chord the first time I heard it? Yeah. Did I think it was a huge deal and attack on my beliefs, no. I'm not going to take this further than that. People (of all types) are too sensitive and overreact to everything.

Yeah I'm willing to call deliberate troll. Besides, if anything, Spore is a model based around ID. IIRC during development Will Wright didn't really get any issues from Christians (although funnily enough, he seemed to get some flack from hardcore atheists on the game. Go figure).
Seriously, the website is fake as all hell. Comments are under moderation, yet all insults are left intact. The website's creator mentions calling Jack Thompson and then concluding he's a bad lawyer. There's just so much that screams BS. Also, there are ads on the page. It gets refreshed with comments which are on the same page than the ads are.
The website's comments, its comment system, its navigation, all is made to refresh the page (and ads) as much as possible.
The comments are provocative so you want to put one too. The subject is an obvious case of "I'm taking the wrong side in an obviously stupid fght" so that everyone feels the need to comment.
Yesterday I found out about a new game called Spore when my son asked me to buy it for him. It looked innocent enough at first and has “E for Everyone†ESRB rating. But don’t be mislead, apparently “everyone†means everyone they want to teach evolution to.
This entire game is propaganda aimed directly at our children to teach them evolution instead of creationism, or “intelligent design†if you go for stupid PC terms.
The object of the game is to evolve from a “spore†into demon-like intelligent space creatures that violently take over the galaxy.
Kind of reminds me of the group that had a site up to protest the release of The Two Towers (yes, the Lord of the Rings movie) because the name was insensitive to the families of victims of 9/11. Either a totally silly joke, or someone supremely out of contact with reality.
This is a perfect example. I see Spore in the same way I see Magic The Gathering. It's a card game. Sure, some Christians won't feel right playing it since there is magic and summoning and whatever other terms could be equated with witchcraft and satanism.
To me, it's a card game. Whoop de doo. I DM a D&D night every Friday. I listen to rock and roll! (oh no!) I admit there are many things that Christians probably should not do, and some things that could be done but cautiously, but seriously some people take things way too seriously.
On the other hand, Romans 14:21 (It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.) is very forefront in my mind when it comes to these things. The passage talks about eating meat or other food items that have been offered to idols. Paul (the writer of Romans) says that all things come from God and are good to eat. However, if someone decides that they believe it is wrong to eat meat offered to idols, don't offer them meat or eat meat in front of them that was offered to idols. ie: Don't offend.
I'm not going to tell my youth group or stand in front of my church and tell them that I play Magic, D&D, or drink an occasional alcoholic beverage. Some people would be offended. I don't hide what I do, there are many people who know I do these things, but I'm not going to go out of my way to offend someone who believes they should not do them.
If she believes it's wrong to play Spore, fine. I won't play Spore in front of you, but don't expect everyone to go along with you just because you're offended.

Yeah that was a petition. IIRC People signed up to it purely to leave comments about how idiotic the whole thing was.

I think this thread is probably redundant, we mentioned it in the Spore thread already, mostly just pointing and laughing.

I would change the topic to "Crazy "Christian" vs. Spore". Don't group crazy people with the rest of the sane population. Quotes are also preferred.

The outcome is looking bleek for Spore!

I'd go one further and just say "Sad but blatant profiteer troll Vs. Spore".
So yeah, don't feed the troll.
