My Dell Inspiron E1505 has a slight problem. I ran the battery all the way down about a week ago - not for any specific reason, I know that this battery doesn't have "memory". But I turned it on after it auto-shutdown and basically ran it down to the wire. Unfortunately, now my laptop think it's always on AC power. The AC led is orange when I use it and it isn't plugged in. In the control panel it says "Battery not present" under power options.
Dell batteries have 5 leds on the bottom so you can check how much power is in a battery. If you hold the button down for a few seconds, it acts as a status indicator on the battery's health - if any light up, then the battery is getting old. None of them light up - the battery thinks it's fine, but the max life on it is something like 15 minutes of non-stress use.
Any ideas? I've ordered a new battery to replace it, but I'm not sure why the laptop thinks it's constantly on AC.
I've found with laptops and power issues that simply taking the battery out and putting it back in resolves many issues. Aside from that, it could possibly be software related.
I'd re-seat the battery and clean the contacts to start with.

But googling "dell e1505 battery" results in a shit-ton of complaints about the battery, AC adapter, or both. Methinks something's fucked.
