WASILLA, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin brushed aside a question about entitlement reform during her interview with ABC on Friday, saying she would simply "find efficiencies" in the Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid programs rather than assess their fundamental health.
Palin seemed to struggle some with the question, which came after she said that one of the top economic priorities of a McCain-Palin administration would be to reduce the federal budget. Palin said that in doing so, she would leave veterans' benefits off the table.
ABC anchor Charles Gibson asked where the cuts would come from, then. "Do you talk about entitlement reform? Is there money you can save in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid?"
"I am sure that there are efficiencies that are going to be found in all of those agencies. I am confident in that," Palin said.
Gibson followed up by explaining that "the agencies are not involved in entitlements. Basically, discretionary spending is at 18 percent of the budget."
Palin came back to her original point. "We have certainly seen excess in agencies, though, and in -- when bureaucrats, when bureaucracy just gets kind of comfortable, going with the status-quo and not being challenged to find efficiencies and spend other people's money wisely, then that's where we get into the situation that we are into today, and that is a tremendous growth of government, a huge debt, trillions of dollars of debt that we're passing on to my kids and your kids and your grandkids," Palin said. "It's unacceptable."
So, if any of you have friends that are voting for McCain because of Palin, I asked a buddy of mine a question he couldn't counter. I don't know if it swayed him much, but it gave him pause:
Palin couldn't run a city of 9000 without driving it millions of dollars into the hole, she couldn't run a state of 670,00 (which is, by the way, smaller than the population of Chicago) without accusations of corruptions and an investigation, what makes you possibly believe she could run a country of three hundred million people with anything like competency?
Aside from the substance, the ad itself is extremely disgusting. "Obama wants to teach sex ed to kindergartners" while you have a picture of Obama smiling, looking over his shoulder.
Yeah, if for any reason you were under the mistaken impression that John McCain had a shred of honor or dignity left in him, watch that ad a few times, remember he's complaining about Obama protecting children against fucking child-rapists, and listen to "I'm John McCain and I approve this message" a few times.

Until the investigation is over, I'd be undecided on that front. But could you link me some info about her time as mayor?

Accusations and corruption charges are old hat. In Arkansas, all it took was one complaint (without any factual finding) and the shit would hit the fan. Honestly, the stuff that tries to get pinned down on candidates nowadays is borderline retarded. "Your brother is living in a shack, you asshole!" "Your daughter got pregnant, your fault!" "You don't have any experience! Neither do I, but I'm not dumb enough to run for president!"
I'm getting a little tired of the whole thing. Talk about the issues, let the sideline gossip be covered by TMZ.
I'm looking for just a regular video of the ad, but everything that turns up on youtube is "How full of shit is this ad, guys?" I'll let you know if I find the unedited original.
It does seem like we're returning to a somewhat better for McCain than pre-convention status. I think we'll know for sure around Wednesday of next week. But what was Obama by about 2 pretty consistently in Gallup (so +5/6 in non trackers) will end up being a flat tie/slim McCain lead.

The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.
What the hell is wrong with teaching sex ed to kindergartner's anyway? Maybe it would remove some of the rampant ignorance and stigma surrounding sex.
I think you've just answered your own question.
Because most if not all kindergartners don't know what sex is, and are not having it. Let's put a spotlight on a delicate subject in a human's delicate stages of life and see if some of them don't "try it out." Some things kids don't need to know about.
I don't understand the outrage over the ad. It is just exaggeration and twisting of words. Something that all politicians do. Live with it.
No. This is on the level of "McCain having an illegitimate black baby" levels of scummery. Even if the words are technically true, it is lying by omission and implication.
I believe the Obama campaign is trying their hand at shifting the narrative, now put it in an ad!
"We will take no lectures from John McCain who is cynically running the sleaziest and least honorable campaign in modern Presidential campaign history. His discredited ads with disgusting lies are running all over the country today. He runs a campaign not worthy of the office he is seeking."

So, teach them about sex after they already know what it is and after they're already doing it, then? And kids already "try it out", playing doctor and such.

Um
Just because they don't know what sex is doesn't mean creepy motherfucker with a hard on for teeter tots doesn't.
It's basically teaching them "Sometimes there are bad people, and they may kidnap you, or touch you, and that is bad, and here is what you have to do to prevent it and to tell someone if it happens"
With all the hullabaloo over sex predators nowadays how is it not advisable that kids know how to protect themselves?
Yeah, the smiling Obama while talking about teaching kids to have sex is fucking vile. I don't even think saying its "dogwhistle" would be appropriate, the ad is talking about teaching kids to have sex with a gigantic, smiling image of your opponent.
I did enjoy the Obama camp's response, shame it didn't make it into ad form (AFAIK).

You mean like Obama misquoting McCain in a speech? Omitting the part where McCain made it obvious he was joking?

Anything that cuts down on specious convictions is good, given the exaggerated repercussions for sexual offenses, and anything that gets more reporting and convictions is good, given the exaggerated dangers of sexual predators (exaggerated in the second case not read as a pejorative).
Using education as your tool allows you to perform the latter without also doing more of the former. It's, like, someone is actually trying to fight this kind of crime from an effective standpoint instead of just showing how "tough" they are by increasing sentences and after-release penalties for offenders.

Scummy. But not on "Calling your opponent a pedophile" levels.
Can I get a cite on that BTW? I presume you're talking about the "I voted with the President 90% of the time" commercial.
Well that is a scummy ad, though it did seemingly use words (and omit key ones) from the bill itself.
If you said "sex with children is not cool" and I quoted you as saying "sex with children is... cool" I'd also be using your words. Doesn't mean I wouldn't be a lying sack of shit, though.

Truth: Obama wanted to make sure that those tots had the ability to report sexual abuse and felt comfortable doing so.

Nonsense.
The time has come to act. And act FAST.

Because of this ad, of course McCain supports sexual abuse of kindergarteners and wants sex offenders to have a harder time being caught.
What, you have a problem with that? That's just what politicians do.
