My ultimate goal is two 80gb drives (the 10,000 RPM variety) in RAID0 for
strict gaming. Nothing of importance on those drives.
Than two larger drives in RAID1, wherein I'd keep everything else.
Problem is... I have essentially no idea how about to do this. I know it involves something called a "raid controller." That's really about it. Appearently I also have to set it up before I install my OS. I
assume this all to mean that I put everything in my computer together, including this RAID controller, however that'd work... Turn it on, set this baby up, and
then insert my OS disk and install it onto my RAID1 drives. Then there's RAID 0+1.. RAID JBOD... RAID 5...
I'm shopping around for RAID controllers trying to get an idea of how this is supposed to
physically work. Can one controller
control two seperate RAID setups? The setup I have in mind?
How close am I to right, and is there a thorough guide somewhere online I could follow effectively step by step?
Also, I'm unable to afford my RAID idea just yet. So say I set my computer up now with just one 80gb 10,000 RPM drive and one more conventional drive with my OS on it. I have to wipe both drives completely, setup RAID on both as if I just got them, and then reinstall the OS?
Lastly, I apologize if this
has been discussed before, but the threads I found had more to due with it's theoretical value, and less to do with practical implementation.
