Game On: Forza 2

But not a real Game On as I'm too lazy to organise it all. I picked this up yesterday, and so far I'm loving the shit out of it. Though my love of the Jaguar E-Type means my progress is somewhat slowed as I can't buy any more cars because I keep spending all my credits keeping my precious baby well fed.

Still, it is quite hilarious to drive an A class when all the AIs have C Class, even if it does hate cornering. Completely. Well, maybe it doesn't hate corners so much as it really loves track barriers and wants to give them hugs all the time. I can't tell a difference.

Post pictures of awesome paintjobs etc here. And GamerTags, I guess. (I'm willing to take any gifts :) )

I have this, and haven't played it nearly enough. I also have no work next week and the house to myself. I might actually feel the need to load it up and race some of you chumps, just to show how bad I can be.

Ben, I already have you on my friends list, which is also getting rather full (got a few invites on there already that I've not accepted yet, sorry to those people).

What I love about the Forza games is that they stick with you. So long as you're a fan of sim racing... the experience is always the same: Awesome.

I built a racing cockpit specifically for Forza 2 and every part of me, brain to dick... is telling me to get rid of the monstrosity(women give it an odd look when they see it) but just knowing that Forza 3 is in development has stayed my hand.

    Fuck.

    LOVE THIS GAME

also, that way I'd have an excuse to break out my beautiful Shelby GT500KR. You know, the 60s one, from back when America knew how to make good cars.

I like the lower class cars too. It's more fun to race in my Scion TC since I actually own one, than some crazy fast euro car I'll never afford.

Btw, I have this game if anyone wants to race.

Then it is you who does not want to turn a corner!

I race D through S. Someone mentioned the tC(I own one as well) and it's a beastly d-class car. I can usually keep up with the Mini scrubs with it.

My favorite class is either C or B, though. Well... A is fun, too.

    Shit... they're all fun.

Oh, here are two different tuning calculators to help you get some better performance out of your cars. These don't leave you with the optimal config, not by far, but they are generally better than stock.

Man, I got the wheel for my birthday like a year ago and I played this constantly for 2 months then I put the wheel away one day to clean up my living room and now it's been neglected ever since. I am crazy busy but soon, very soon, I'll get back into it.

    Quick question.

Is the wheel necessary to play racing sims properly or can you compete with a regular controller?

Also how indepth are the modifications and upgrades that you can do to cars and is it something a car newb would have no hope grasping?

    Thanks

I got my ass handed to me all the time in spite of having the wheel and other peeps using a regular controller.

Honestly, I don't think this should even be possible. I watch the telemetry of people using a standard controller and they spend the whole time bumping the stick instead of turning smoothly. For a sim, that should cause the wheels to break free all the time, and yet they drive like they're on rails. I don't get it. I almost felt like I was being punished at times with my wheel because I could literally feel the edge of the envelope on curves and stick drivers would go around me. Meh, maybe I just suck at driving.

I've put some serious thought into buying a controller for Forza.

There's only one car I drive that makes me think a wheel might be better simply because turning with a controller is not smooth. And some cars seem to require you to be smooth. When I drive the GT40, because the vehicle has so much lateral horsepower, turning is extremely touchy with it. It makes it almost hard to focus when driving because you're constantly fighting for control.

Ask anyone you like who knows anything about cars if they'd rather own a mint condition 2009 Mustang or a mint condition 1969 Mustang. You may repeat this experiment for a '69 Corvette C3 vs. an '09 Corvette C6. Go ahead, do it.

There's a reason why, for the past six or seven years, the major American car makers are trying to make their expensive cars resemble what their expensive cars used to look like in the late sixties and early seventies.

Co-sign on driving lower class cars. I've never been into the U class cars with 700+ horsepower, it's much more fun in my opinion to race well balanced B, A or S class car. Then it's actually a race which is won with driver skill, instead of a throttle-mashing top speed competition.

Regardless, gamertag is in the sig. I'm up for racing with you all if this gets started. Spec out a few cars on here, and get some tight races going :D

You didn't take into account that a 40 year old car that is mint condition is worth a lot more to someone than a car that just released and would be brand new to anyone.

And bombboy, that is the only thing I need to do as well. I played through the entire game and got 100% before I even tried an online race. I have something like 770,000 online credits, seems like I will never get to it.

I would be up to race this weekend sometime, AcridMeat

You don't get it? It's called dampening. If the angle of the stick directly controlled the angles of the front wheel you wouldn't be simulating the speed a human could turn the steering wheel. The reason that people do better with a controller is because they don't have to fight to keep the car going straight.

You don't suck at driving, its just that the wheel is a pretty crappy wheel to use with a sim. It only goes 270 degrees from lock to lock. For good control, you need more like 900 degrees.

I had a wheel and I found it to be WAY MORE FUN than the control but also NOT A BETTER CONTROL for winning races. For best results, turn the FF scale way down, that way you get the tactile information from the wheel but you don't have to fight it to keep it where you want it.

Of course people would rather have mint condition cars from the 60's, as they are ultra-rare. I know people who've driven both corvettes though, and in any realistic measure of performance, handling, etc, the '09 will absolutely blow the doors off the '69.

I'll take a '09 C6 Z06 over a '69 any day of the week. On the other hand, I would take a '69 over a C6 on said days. Therefore:

    C6 < C3 < C6 Z06 < C6 ZR1

The controller is much easier to use. I've been using the wheel since the game debuted and still have a hard time if I take traction control off on the higher classes.

So no, not necessary at all, but it does add a lot to the experience, especially with the proper seating arrangements.

As far as modifications an upgrades go, you can go balls deep or not at all. I tend to leave my tuning stock and still run in the top 3. What's great about this game is it caters to every kind of car nut. From the artist, to the tuner... to the racer.

    That's a lot of wrong.

The C6 Z06 is an absolute monster on the track. Anybody who picks a '69 Corvette over the C6 prefers the look and feel of classic muscle. The reasons for going retro on design is not for performance reasons.

This game is heroin. Every time I think I have it kicked -- "oh, I'll just play PGR4/GTA IV/Team Fortress 2/Castle Crashers for a while instead" -- I wind up going back to it, trying to raise enough credits to upgrade all 200+ of my cars and running lap after lap around Suzuka until I get it tuned just the way I like. The fact that Midnight Club LA keeps getting pushed back means I'm probably going to dick around with this again pretty soon, even if I've slacked off with the weekly online races the guys at 360 Arcadians organize.
