OK SO WHO LIKES WORLD WAR 2 SHOOTERS?

definitely the two guys who are making this game which comes out in like five days there should be a thread on this

one of them is Randy Pitchford and he is the really surreal guy who keeps talking about how cool it is seeing nazis blown apart in slow mo and the other is the very forceful slightly creepy Colonel John Antal who keeps talking about the historical accuracy which i can totally get behind

SO

the end result is a
  • schizophrenic,
  • very pretty,
  • surprisingly tactical first person schuter
  • that is all about using cover and
  • supressive fire and
  • flanking and
  • scaring the guys into retreat and
  • demolishing cover to find ways around jolly old jerry and actual stuff like that because
  • you will die in like one shot

AND it's all set in that whole mass landing in holland ("operation market garden" as known to history ladyboys) so you can act out your massive futile "bridge too far" fantasies

HERE ARE SOME PIKACHURES FOR YOU TO LIKE

Hopefully, there will be a demo. This looks fairly impressive, but I never know if I'm going to like a shooter until I've felt how it handles.

The Brothers In Arms game I played for PS2, Earned In Blood, had some frustrating issues. My assault squad liked to get massacred in spite of flanking pinned-down Germans. And whenever I went into close quarters, the hit detection made it a crapshoot whether Fritz would respond to having half a BAR magazine unloaded into him.

So I spent a lot of time sniping the jerries when they popped their heads up from behind low walls. Weird thing is, I could never tell I'd hit the target just by looking. But there was a graphical glitch, a slight framerate hiccup during the firing animation, when my shot had just eliminated a kraut. That's how I knew.

My exepectations on this game has mirrored a freaking roller coaster. Announcement: EXCITED! First info: HAPPY! Revelation that a significant portion of the game is spent alone instead of with your squad: NOT HAPPY! More trailer stuff: HAPPY! Slow-mo grenade explosions: NOT HAPPY AT ALL! Cool graphics: HAPPY! The tank trailer where they show you squishing people: LOOKS LAME! Gameplay walkthrough video: KIND OF GOOD! Latest trailer where they show you holding a Browning .30 cal and singlehandedly mowing down a ton of Germans as you run around with it: REALLY STUPID.

So I have NO IDEA if it's going to be any good. I loved the first two though.

I want this... but money is tight, like extremely tight. I also loved the last two

I might have to start mugging old people or rob a bank or something like that.*

I also can't figure out if I want this for 360 (live + achievements but no HDMI) or PS3 (HDMI 1080p bitches). I'm leaning towards 360 because I'm an achievement whore and I'm not sure how much of a difference there REALLY is

*and by rob a bank I mean scrounge up 65 bucks legitimately

Or you could buy it for PC and have the option of aiming at the opponents. That's what I'll do if it ends up not sucking which at this point I can't really certify.

Lets move this thread back up to the "front lines"

So I'm probably going to buy this game, since I loved playing 1 and 2. But one thing is worrying me, isnt this an Ubisoft/gearbox game? I remember the last ubisoft game I bought was Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and that was pretty dissapointing.

I also disagree with third person cover system in this game. If you were going for realistic, then you should've made it so its a 1st person cover system where you slide into cover and have to peek out all while in first person view

The previews videos I watched (they had an ass load of them on PSN) made the slow mo look awesome but I can see how it could get played out.

Another concern of mine was that there was/is no announcement of coop. The gearbox forums had a bunch of people ask about it and the standard reply was that there is none, I would have like to have seen that in some form. I enjoyed the last two enough to buy it regardless.

From my understanding, I don't think the U.S. started that until recently. In the pictures that I can find at the moment, when they DID wear flags they weren't reversed.

I've been playing this game for the last couple of days, and it's absolutely fantastic. I love how seamless and generally load-time free it is, and I'm really enjoying the story. I played a good chunk of Road to Hill 30, and never played Earned in Blood, and this made me go pick up the Wii port of them. A great, great game so far.

To me, it seems like they tried to mash up GRAW and Gears of War. Granted, I haven't played it, but that's how it looks.

All WW2 games really have going for them is an undeniable sense of immersion. You rip the camera out of the soldier's head and look around a corner and it kind of kills it for me. I'm a big sucker for games I can get lost in, like a good book.

I just finished it. Really enjoyable, tactical game, and I'm excited now to go back and finish the first two, which I've put off for way too long. The only weird thing about the ending is that the credits just scream on by. I have no idea why they made them go by so fast, I sort of like seeing who all was involved in the game.

Korean War. I say a game set during the battle of Chosin Reservoir. But first a good movie has to come out about Korea, because WW2 games didn't get so massively popular until Saving Private Ryan.

Been playing through Road to Hill 30, and the controls are decent. The dead zone in the center of the screen is a little bit large, even at the highest sensitivity, but there's also an alternate control mode that allows you to turn your aiming field with the analog stick, a la RE4 Wii. So far though, they haven't gotten in the way, and all of my deaths have been my own fault. There are three gesture-based controls: rotating the nunchuck in a vertical orientation to call your squad back to you, flicking the remote to melee attack, and flicking the remote to throw a grenade once you've chosen where you want to throw it. Everything else is a pretty standard Wii shooter control setup. The only thing I don't like is that the tactical overhead view is assigned to the 1 button.

Graphically, yes, they are identical to the Xbox versions. It was converted by Demiurge. They did the Mass Effect PC port, and design work for the opening of Bioshock. The port quality is pretty darn great.
