Saints Row 2: DLC out now.

DLC Release date: Pushed back to April 23rd.
Here's some info on the DLC.

Let’s start with the basics, shall we? A little Wikipedia pilferage to set the mood:
Saints Row 2 (abbreviated to SR2) is a sandbox-style action-adventure video game developed by Volition Inc and published by THQ. It is the sequel to Saints Row and is the second title in the Saints Row series. Saints Row 2 is to be released in America on October 14 and Europe on October 17, 2008, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Saints Row 2 is to be released in America on October 30 for Microsoft Windows. A smaller variant of the game will also be published for mobiles. Announced on May 11, 2007, Saints Row 2 was originally slated for an August 28, 2008 release, but was delayed for marketing considerations. A Collector’s Edition for the game is confirmed, to be released alongside the standard version, and features various collector’s items.

Was that too dry and clinical for you? I feel the same way. Here are some pretty pictures to make everything better (Possibly not safe for work or your H-scroll):

1204660523.jpg

Another big deal about Saints Row 2 is its co-op. If this preview is to believed, co-op is looking pretty bitchin'.
You see, Saints Row 2's co-op seems to be as well thought through as its new diversions, activities, and gameplay tweaks. Joining a friend seems straightforward enough, and progressing through missions is just as compelling, perhaps even more so. But it's through completing the various activities like Demolition Derby, Rampage, or the new Fight Club activity that co-op is coming to life. The two players can be on either side of the city, but when one tries to start an activity, the other gets automatically invited to take part. They don't have to, but at least players are given the chance to decide for themselves either way.

Along with co-op there's also a somewhat traditional couple of multiplayer modes. They seem a little complicated, but thankfully here's a good preview that explains it all.

Did I mention this game is even rumored to have a plot? Wacky shit, I know:
Set in a redesigned rendition of Stilwater, a fictional city based heavily on the cities of Chicago and Detroit, the game picks up from where Saints Row left off, with the player waking up from a trauma-induced coma in a prison hospital, five years after the events of Saints Row, only to escape the prison island and rejoin the 3rd Street Saints, the gang the series is set around. The protagonist learns that the Saints have fallen apart, and that three new gangs have risen to power in Stilwater.

Also, advertising and teaser videos! There's a lot of them out, and some of them even have Gary Busey! You know they've found their demographic!

Videos galore!

Another exciting feature that Saints Row 2 is a bringing to the table is a lot of "famous" people doing voices! Alright, it's basically just NPH and some people nobody cares about.
Voice talent that will be in Saints Row 2, including Daniel Dae Kim (24, Lost), Michael Dorn (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: DS9), Jamie Pressly (My Name is Earl, Dead or Alive), Neil Patrick Harris (Harold and Kumar movies, Doogie Howser MD), Michael Rappaport (Higher Learning, Deep Blue Sea) and Eliza Dushku (Tru Calling, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back).

But wait, that's not all. There's also preorder swag. Yes, Saints Row 2 is going the same direction as many other games, forcing you to not only decide to purchase the game before it comes out, but to also shop around and figure out which random collection of crap makes for the best deal. Thankfully, I've done the legwork for you.
Gamstop/EB: SaintsRow2_bonus.jpg Probably the best deal, apparently it will come with a code to allow you to use a UFO in the game, and more importantly a tiny pink minibike.

Best Buy:
Apparently they're giving out a Preorder bonus pack that comes with "a poster, ringtone, and more." Your guess as to what "and more" is is as good as mine.

Excited yet? I think this may be where Volition finally steps out from the shadow of GTA and stands up and proudly declares "We're okay with making a game where you can dress up like a hotdog and spray shit on everyone".

I have to say, honestly, that those screenshots are terrible. Still, the first one was pretty fun, so I'm sure I'll end up trying this out at some point.

Yeah, I don't think it's going to win any graphical awards. I'd consider them to be serviceable, though. Kind of like the first, it's not going to turn too many heads but it'll get the job done. Some of it might be that those screenshots look a lot like low-res rips from the promo videos.

Yeah what's up with that? I watched a trailer for it and it looked like San Andreas level graphics. It's like they're not even trying.

Well the first Saint's Row was pretty much a bland and Soulless GTA as far as artistic direction goes, but #2 has Neil Patrick Harris doing some voices! That alone might be worth a rental if he voices a major character!

I'm pretty sure NPH does the voice of a radio DJ.

Perhaps the OP is a little convoluted, but there are links to all the Busey videos there.

People don't like the Busey stuff? I thought it was a stroke of genius. "We're gonna put out a series of teaser snippets, but we only have about ten seconds of gameplay footage for each. Who the hell can we get to present this stuff and make it interesting?" "I don't know, what's that old dude that was in Lethal Weapon that snorted coke off his dog and was never quite right after that motorcycle accident doing now?".

No. This game is my only hope. GTA4 was fuck-awesome, but the online suffered from a lack of anything to do outside of competitive modes and just dicking around. Mercs 2 was one step forward (the drop-in/out co-op campaign) and 8 steps back (a pretty mediocre game, made even worse by all the glitches).

Firstly, how can you say "Alright, it's basically just NPH and some people nobody cares about." when it's also got Michael Dorn in it!? :D I will picture every line being spoken by Worf, which probably isn't a good thing, but it makes me laugh. Plus Daniel Dae Kim!

I really should play the first one, because this one looks like it could be good.

While I agree that there are no "big" names, I was still kinda surprised that I had heard of so many of them. Usually, there's one or two known actors, and everyone else is played by career video-game-voiceover people.

Actually, reading the OP again, I find it funny that NPH is listed as the "big actor" and his credits don't even include Dr. Horrible!

Those songs have been stuck in my head for weeks now....

This is on my list of games of interest this season but unfortunately its pretty far down the list.
    Sorry Volition, maybe next year.

    Definately Get:
    LBP ps3
    Valkyria Chronicles ps3
    Rock Band 2 ps3
    GH: World Tour ps3
    Wipeout HD ps3
    Megaman 9 ps3

    Probably Get:
    Dead Space ps3
Fallout 3 ps3 or pc not sure.
    Resistance 2 ps3
    Star Ocean psp
    Left 4 Dead pc

    Might get if cheap enough:
    Castlevania ds
    Alone in the Dark ps3
    Mirror's Edge ps3
    Motorstorm or Pure ps3
    Saints Row 2 ps3
    Red Alert 3 pc
    SOCOM ps3

And if I end up getting an Xbox360 its basically off the list.

Edit: crap forgot about Dead Space, yeah this game is not getting bouht for a loong time. :(
Also wtf, I was under the impression that the ps3 had no games so I wouldn't have to deal with this shit. This is not what I bargained for....

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

The one thing that's making me a little bit uneasy, is the fact that they seem to be putting alot of emphasis on the things you can do outside of the story mode. Rather the main game itself

There was a story trailer recently - saw it on Xbox live - and it looked pretty good.

This game looks like it will be a hoot, offering the wazky, zany gameplay GTA has abandoned. I loved GTA IV, but some insanity would be nice, too.

I'm not too worried about the story, it seems like it will be (spoiled for some videos) via the three gangs with some threads that run in between. I thought that worked well in the first and lets you play through the game in a couple different ways.

Sadly this might be the game GTA used to be. I just hope to god that the character doesn't sound like he does in the trailers. I couldn't live with playing as that person.

I doubt they'd answer it but ask them of their opinion of GTA4.

And if there are any fantasy vehicles like jetpacks.

Oh, oh, ask them if they have any ideas on how they'd deal with future sequels since setting them all in Stilwater around the saints probably won't work beyond this game.

Yes. Jetpacks should be a REQUIREMENT. Jetpacks made both rampant destruction and sneaky sniping so goddamned EASY in GTA. I could just fly up onto a building, set the 'pack down, whip out my rifle, and shoot my clip all over a hooker.

Everything felt forced in the first one, do gangsters actually walk or talk like that outside the 90's? I'm hoping this one is going to be better, the story (from the trailers) looks a little interesting at least but the main character seems to f' and g' damn a lot which tends to be a placeholder for a lack of real sentences.

The gangsta' schtick I didn't have a problem with outside of the fact that it's gangsta', but Random Pedestrian Dialogue was just awful; for all its crassness, GTA RPD just has the most natural-sounding deliveries of anything whereas SR RPD was like opening a door to have someone lean into your face, deliver their line, and then lean back into their little door and slam it in your face.
