First of all, I think you're off to a great start, but here are some fancy pointers:
1) you need to work more on shading, most of what you've shown us lacks the subtle nuances of shading and lightwork, I think it will give your pictures the edge they deserve if you try to emboss most of the edges and maybe add some drop shadows
2) I noticed you used the paint bucket fill tool to color your characters shirt, I think it would really give your picture the gravity it needs if you used a photoshop gradient filter

I don't have photoshop do you know where i can get a pirated copy of it for free? I like the sound of being able to make a gradation and maybe some other kool stuff.
