Thinking about selling my Wii, how to go about it?

Ok, so Im basically tired of my Wii, Ive played the games I have to death, I dont see any coming out that I want to play, and people are refusing to put games on it because its not powerful enough. So I think Imma pack it in and go get me a 360. Now, Im not sure what the best way to go about this is. I looked on Ebay and package deals that were similar to what Ive got were going for around 200 bid and like 350-500 buy it now. I went to gamestop and they have a trade in deal going on, 20 extra dollars for each system, and 15 extra for each three games. Store credit of course. So with that, trading in all my stuff at gamestop would net me $387 in store credit, which I would use to then buy a Microsoft refurbished 360 pro 20 gig.

The clerk brought up something else though, around Christmas the prices on ebay for Wii's will almost definitely skyrocket. If that happens then I have a chance to make a lot more money on this deal that I would just settling for gamestop. However, this trade in deal (which is netting me an extra $50 total) runs out October 12th I believe he said.

So on the one hand I can definitely get around $380 dollars (depending on how prices change before I get back to my system), but on the other I could stand to gain a lot more if the prices do go up for Christmas. I've never sold anything on Ebay so I dont know what Im doing there or what to expect, and Im kinda wary passing on this pretty great Gamestop deal for something that might happen. Also, $380 is pretty good, the xbox is $249 so that means I could get a couple used games and a new one or so, which is pretty good.

I guess Im looking for suggestions and advice on what would be in my best interest, kinda lost.

Try Craiglist. I put mine up for sale there last year, and got tons of response.

They weren't lying when they said that wii prices will soar in as soon as 2 months. I think you'd make a killing if you sold it on ebay properly around thanksgiving+.

How does creigs list work? Is it just a site where I post that I want to sell X for Y amount and I find someone who's willing to make that?

Really Im just a little paranoid that I wont get a good deal on this and Ill be out of a system entirely.

What games do you have? Nearly all my games got ripped off last spring, and I might be willing to take some off your hands.

Definitely wait to sell during Christmas season. The Wii supply is FINALLY just now becoming less of an issue...I give even odds supply shortages will temporarily resume during the Thanksgiving season. However, the system will sell itself without the games...those are not hard to find. Given that, I would think you can do better than $15-for-3 with the non-shitty games. You might try to sell those now, there's no reason to try to bundle them with the system on Ebay as anyone willing to buy at high Ebay prices will be able to go to the store and buy the games.

This is everything Ive got for the Wii.

Wii with all cables, 3 controllers, 2 nunchucks, brawl, corruption, twilight princess, okami, mario galaxy, super paper mario, marvel ultimate alliance, tombraider anniversary.

Everything is used but its in good condition.

Yeah, craigslist has a classifieds section, so you list what you have and your asking price. If you're in a moderately busy region you can look around the site to see what others are posting similar systems for and price competitively.

If you're paranoid about not getting a good deal, then don't post it for less than you're willing to sell it for. This is going to be the biggest problem with eBay because you'll either end up starting with a high starting bid, or a high reserve because you don't want to get shafted, so you'll likely get less bidding than an unrestricted auction.

I'd say give it a month or two and just keep an eye out for Wii prices, both on Craigslist and completed auctions on eBay. If someone posts the same ad on Craigslist every week trying to sell their system for $400, then obviously they're not really getting offers and the price is probably too high.

I just thought of something. Do you have the original dated receipt? Your ability to sell this on Ebay will be affected by your ability to prove its under warranty if something goes bad.

Well, I got it right when it came out so I seriously doubt its still under warranty. And no, I dont have the receipt.

The nice thing about selling on Craigslist is you're not required to complete the transaction as you would listing on ebay. You can put it up for any price you choose, entertain any offers made, and choose to not sell if the market interest isn't offering enough to satisfy you.

On ebay, you list it and if nobody bids and it goes off for 10 bucks, you're shipping your Wii off for 10 bucks. Now obviously it wouldn't go for that, but you get the picture. Only advantage ebay has is you might get a little more than you expect if people bid it up a ways.

Personally I'd ebay it. You can put it up with a minimum you'll accept and let the bids go from there (you can find yourself getting much more than you expected), the buyer has more payment options and you'll reach more people. I sold my shitty little iPod mini on ebay for $55.

To clarify this, Gamestop buys the games for whatever price, plus 15 bucks if you're trading in three games from the PS3, Wii, or 360. It's actually a pretty good deal. :P I made... 130 bucks off of used games last week trading in some stuff I didn't play.

But yes... sell around Christmas time, that's when the crazy soccer moms and grandmas will be out buying toys for the kids. >.>

oh yeah, its 15 extra for every three games. Sorry if there was confusion.

Well, I still have about two weeks before Im back with my system and such, so maybe Ill put up a creigslist add and see what I can get. If I dont like what I see maybe I can go to Gamestop anyway.

What would you suggest I try and sell it for? Im guessing minimum of $400 since thats only a little more than what gamestop wants to give me and the slight bit of more work for me to meet up with someone. Should I try for more?

With the games you might get that. MIGHT. But on Ebay I'm seeing NEW wiis going for as low as $320 Buy-It-Now. Most of the new-system prices seem to be ending on auction around $350-375. And you're trying to sell USED. You can see if you get lucky though. Given the information people posted above, I would almost DEFINITELY sell the games used to gamestop now. Though don't sell Wii Sports or Wii Play if you have them, keep those with the system.

    two things

    1) There's no promise that this year the wii is going to be as crazy gottahaveit! as it was last christmas, or that Nintendo isn't going to produce more of them. Yes, it will probably still happen, but I'm just saying it's a risk. On the other hand though, that same trade in deal will be back, if not better, around the holidays. Gamestop trades are their economy, so when one deal ends another one starts up.

I guess what I meant by that is if you're patient, which you seem to be, then wait, because even if ebay doesn't hit what you want, gamestop will almost certainly be running another promotion.

    2) I noticed you said refurb xbox 360. Make sure that you check out what system you're getting to avoid chances of the RRoD. I don't even know if it's still an issue with Gamestop refurb 360's, or if they stopped reselling older ones, but it's worth checking out first.

    good luck.
