Someone sent me this email, how do I respond?
What I don't understand is how so many people can support a man who was raised a muslim, father was a muslim, went to a muslim school as a small boy. Attended Chicago's United Trinity Church for over twenty years with Rev. Jeremiah Wright who Obama said was his spiritual mentor. A mentor who says our country is ruled by rich white people as opposed to what? rich black people. Wright who believes in Black Liberation Theology started by James Cone and Dwight Hopkins. Cone says Black Theology will accept only a god which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. It views all white people as racist. Rev. Wright associates himself with people like Louis Farrakhan and Omar Kadafi. Read up on Black Liberation Theology where Che Guevara Cuban mass murderer is portrayed as a Christ like figure. Che Guevara whose picture is on the wall in Obama's Houston campaign office. No wonder Obama refuses to wear the American Flag pin on his chest and put his hand on his heart during the National Anthem. Obama is obviously a supporter of marxism which believes in socialized health care, welfare, and gun control, we learn this by the mentors he has had. Obama says that people will say (republican's I guess) that he has a funny name, he's black, or his face doesn't look like any of those on the dollar bills, this sounds like racism to me in a very sneaky way. Obama also says we middle America country folk cling to our guns and religion, is this not our right as American's. So again no wonder Obama does not wear the American Flag pin or put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem. Or that his wife Michele is not proud of America until her husband had a shot at the Presidency. As Obama says "Yes We Can, Just Words, Just Speeches", I just cannot understand how a person with this background can get so much support from our fellow Americans, Americans whom I love as a Christian. Please explain.

There was a pretty good article in Salon recently about how political beliefs trigger the "emotional response" part of the brain rather than the "reasoning/rational analysis" part. Also, the article notes that people have an inherent lack of awareness for their own political misgivings; that's why Swift Boating works. Once you get the basic idea, no matter how baseless, in a person's head, it takes a lot to undo that. Basically, you're probably better off not wasting time on this.

Also, block this person's email address. I warn everyone, even my friends, one time: do NOT send me forwards. I don't want to deal with that sort of stupidity, so don't send it.
Also, read even the wiki article on Che Guevara and then ask this guy some basic questions about him. Does he even know anything about him aside from that he was "Cuban" and that he's on a lot of t-shirts now? Any substance about him aside from "Cubans are commies!"?
It's also simplicity itself to find pictures of Obama both with his hand on his heart and wearing American flag pins. Again, if flag pins are so "required" by politicians these days, why do we not just make them part of the dress code? I can be extremely patriotic without a crappy little enamel pin that was probably made in China anyway. Additionally, placing your hand on your heart has never been part of the tradition of the national anthem. All that has ever been "proper" for the anthem is standing and removing your hat. It's the pledge of allegiance that "requires" hand on heart.
"Marxism" is wildly different from believing in socalized health care.
Alternately, delete the email, cause you can't really win with people like this. They'll believe what they want to. Personally, I love the debate, but it's easy for it to get out of hand and you're really not likely to drastically change anyone's world views.
I think these ones are pretty great. But, yeah, OP, delete it and cut this guy out of your life. At no point in his rambling, incoherent response was he even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.
But, since you realize he is ignorant, here are my simple key phrases to remember:
Obama is not other people. Outward signs of patriotism are not the same thing as patriotism. Obama is not other people. Holy shit, he's black, did anyone else notice? Uh, sure, it's your right to cling to things. You seem to agree, so what's the problem? Again, Obama is not other people. And, you can't understand because you're not a very understanding person.

Better yet, phone bank for the Obama campaign, or take a weekend and come to a battleground state to canvass. The great thing about these emails that they send out is that they're usually sent out by an idiot kool-aide drinker to the rest of his idiot kool-aide drinking friends, who tend to live in states populated by similar idiot kool-aide drinkers (I note that you live in Texas). Occassionally innocent bystanders like yourself get caught in the crossfire. If you go to BarackObama.com, you can find information about calling swing voters who live in swing states--you know, the people who actually get to decide who wins and loses on election day!
There's no point wasting your time with unpersuadable voters. Volunteering to talk to voters who haven't made up their minds yet is a great way to get back at the chain-letter sender and elect a President who will bring the change we need to Washington.
Now, McCain means son of Cain, and any good Christian knows that the descendents of Cain (remember Cain was known- and punished for his violent ways and short temper) seek revenge against the descendents of Adam. Clearly, electing McCain will help bring about Armageddon.
