2009 is quickly approaching, and with it comes an entire slew of statutory holidays and accumulated vacation time. Over the past month (in between
serious business) i've planned out a number of potential trips to attempt next year and starting with a gallant trot to Edmonton next week I figure it'd be appropriate to toss up a thread circling everyone's travel plans and hopeful destinations over the next year or so.
So far on my own list there are a potential four legs of trips excluding PAX 09, two to three of which will likely be pulled off. The choices are (each starting in Vancouver):
-Toronto, to Montreal and Quebec city, Boston, and New York. Possible stop in Wisconsin.
-Pacific trip to Japan and Korea. Australia stop isn't out of the question but is also very expensive.
-West coast train ride through Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and down to the LA/SoCal area.
-Short hops from Denver, to Omaha, to Oklahoma City, to Atlanta.
The airfare total for all of those combined is approximately $2000-2500 roundtrip and includes four star accommodations for Japan with dinner every night and couch crashing elsewhere. Not too shabby! The issue is time and being able to find it for these jaunts. One or two is fine but three to four is stretching things slightly. At the very least it shows that with some planning these trips can be done for the right price.
Where do you plan on going this year and next? Are there any looming vacations for which you're giddy in anticipation?

All by 09/09/09.
The fourth trip (and the third for that matter) are nearly all spots where friends live who I want to visit, otherwise that fourth leg would be much further down the list.
Me!
I'm headed to Japan in June. Hotels/two meals paid for. All in all, I think it's 2500 for 9 days? I still need to get some info back. I'm really excited.
You going to Dallas for the UT game? We should meet up.

I might. I don't have tickets for the game itself, but I'll probably be headed that way anyways.
The Mediterranean seems like such a fantastic spot to visit, though that'll wait until 2010 after the olympics.
In general, Europe feels like the kind of place that needs to be hit up all over through France, England, Poland, Germany, Italy, and all else over the course of a month or so.
GAH...I completely forgot about GDC, and i've been trying to go for 5 years now but it's so bloody expensive...
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkk
We'll see how much PTO I build up.
woohoo
summer plans are entirely unknown
one of my aunts is thinking about taking me to eastern europe as a graduation gift, which would be a pretty darn awesome graduation present
The biggest problem with visiting Eastern Europe is that there are definitely places that are 'safe' to visit, and places that are not. Unfortunately they sometimes change so it's difficult to know which one is which from one visit to the next. When my sister went, a group of Polish thugs tried to shake her and her friend down on a bus to Auschwitz by saying they needed to pay a fine for not having a ticket.
However they were terribly ineffective Polish thugs and quickly found themselves in trouble with the police. But places like Ukraine and parts of Russia are not the best, though so long as you keep in the 'touristy' spots you should be okay.
Visiting my mom, sister and home since neither of us will be there for Christmas and this is the closest thing we'll get for now. Aside from that, meeting with the corporate accountant, seeing a long time best friend (21+ years), sorting some files at home and eating some nice classic dinner.
Honestly, i've got about one free day of the 4 i'll be home and it'll likely be spent hanging out with family. Next time when I'm not there so tightly (spring possibly) we'll have to fabricate a pow wow.
oh and I guess it's possible I'll be going to either switzerland or the netherlands in the spring
Understandable. It'll take Vorus and I that long to plan Riskmonton anyways.
If you need a place to have it I will soon be in possession of a large apartment of my very own, since I recall earlier location may have been an issue? Or possibly I'm just crazy.
Where we can sing, dance and make merry, or maybe just play Risk.
Either one works.
This works terribly well.
Where are you located?
As of October 1st I will be located about two minutes southeast of Southgate Mall.
i guess that makes sense though
Me neither, but the fair is always a good time. I can keep the UT thugs off of your back and you can keep me from whatever the fuck a "Boomer Sooner" is.

Like, totally.
Which is basically the kidnapping for ransom which is incredibly common there. It has happened to people we know and knowing that the police will ignore it just scares me.
luckily I enjoy my job
