When every mouth that sings complains and honesty can be replaced there are sadder things to say
I guess it's true I look for it a tragedy that's gonna fit the chorus that I need more than anything
Is it happiness
Is so impossible
That you can't touch it, even when it's close to you
Or is it emptiness
Is still so probable
That you're scared to even reach for it:whistle:
So I don't know how to meet people. This has been bothering me a lot lately.
1) Age/Location?
2) What kind of people do you want to meet?
No I am not hitting on you.
28/NW Illinois/Iowa border. I'm interested in just learning how to meet people in general, though meeting ladies would be pretty good.
Basically, I don't do much in the area. Most of the people I know from work are older and married and don't often go out and do things. I do go to conventions, but most of those are in Chicago, so I know a lot of people 3 hours away.
Oh I felt the joke was trite and stupid. That geeks find it funny or that the character is awesome is not very surprising. Star wars alone is proof most of you don't have a very good quality control.
What?
Why would a person have quality control?
Quality control for what?
This doesn't make sense.
Quality control for your own entertainment. That being you go "Oh this is just utter garbage with very little redeeming qualities I shall turn it off and mock those who dared to create it".
Also not funny strong bad, 8bit theater, and tina fey.
Well that comic is probably a month old, but there are news posts shilling his current appearence somewhere all over his site. Honestly Ramsoosir is one of the least funny and least reliable web comic authors out there, when 3 panel soul updates more often then you, you have issues.
He actually has at least three comics now. I think he's just kind of burned out on VGCats themselves. Also his tastes seem to be fairly limited so he doesn't have much to draw on.
Jesus 3 comics of suck? Can't this guy limit his shit to not taking up more web pages? I mean at least Milholland had a funny comic to start with and his side comics while not updated often are equally hilarious. But spreading out to do more shit when you sucked the first time is Uwe Boll like.

Yeah, personally I find his stuff to be pretty funny, but lately his work has kind of went down hill. Still not as bad as CAD.
I did enjoy the FFXI comic, but he's only done 6 or so of them and it's been going on for about a fucking year. But I can't get pissed that he doesn't update, because I don't pay for it. He does it out of his own free will, and I respect the guy for what he's done.

Move. Or post on Craigslist, perhaps. But my first thought is still "move". As in, get the hell outta there.

I'd like to get to Chicago eventually, but I have a nice stable job here.

One of the things I've always agreed with Mike on, is that the key to a successful web comic is updating on time all the time. I stopped visting vg cats because it wasn't very funny to begin with and his updates were sporadic while his whining was endless.

I'm in a similar situation. I know nobody in this city except Cesca and her PhD supervisor. I was vaguely hoping to establish some friendships at work but it doesn't seem like this is going to be desperately likely.

I think of that little oasis.
Wait, this happened in Wonder's angry atheist thread? That's the thread you're talking about?! o_O
I've gotta see this oasis you speak of, otherwise I might have trouble believing you.

Yeah, the fact he doesn't update like he should does keep me from going there so frequently. And, like I said, he work has gone downhill. It's also the same reason I quit reading Maddox's site. No updates, and they were stupid.

I can understand that, but still. Either don't whine, or prepare to move. Save extra money, do your research, find a job in Chicago and a place to live before you move, then move.

I did vaguely consider getting a few games in at the local Games Workshop, but they do tend towards a fairly high proportion of creepy. The gym idea is a good one.
I just saw an axe commercial where a man sprayed himself with axe and turned into chocolate. I think this is probably a racist commercial and I plan to make a thread on this for us all to debate the possibilities.

Even if I do move, I'll still have the same issues, except I will have established people to do stuff with I guess. I've never been really good at making friends though. (As long as I can remember, really)

Getting to a place where you can meet people is definitely going to help you.
As for the actual making of friends, I think you'll have to get past some cultural expectations. It's extremely rare to find someone who you immediately get along with, just as its extremely rare for such relationships to last any significant amount of time. The best way is to hang out in areas which have things you like to do in them, then look out for people doing those things you like. This gives you common ground upon which to begin. After a conversation about x-thing-you-like, you might suggest meeting at this same place next week to talk about y-thing-related-to-x-thing. After that, you let things go from there. I know it sounds a lot like meeting 'teh wimmins', but in the early stages of both meeting women and making friends it's just about establishing a common language. As well, the whole time, be honest with them and patient with the whole process. You'd be surprised how long it can take some people to reach the 'hang-out regularly' stage.

Great thing about gyms is the personal trainers like everybody. Because they have to.

Racism
But racism against who? I'd say it's racism against whites, since the Axe people obviously think a white guy isn't attractive enough by himself. Or, it could be simplifying women's romantic/sexual needs by turning a man into chocolate. Hmn, which is funnier? Ugly white guys or misogynists?
After a conversation about x-thing-you-like, you might suggest meeting at this same place next week to talk about y-thing-related-to-x-thing.
This is why "start a conversation in a park/coffee shop/other public place" is such a sub-par solution. If there are any interests or hobbies you have, there is very likely a social organization of some size and somewhere (hopefully close) where you can skip this step of "we needed to make a good enough first impression that the other person and I are both willing to commit to taking time out for the explicit purpose of seeing each other again, what is essentially a date."
