Guilty Pleasures

I cannot for the life of me explain why I like Styx. I genuinely 100% love Styx, and not in a cheesy they're so awful they are good way, but I genuinely like Styx. They are not incredibly talented, or amazing lyricists, but god damn, I love Styx. I even hate Rush for being nasally, anoyingly complex, and lack of appeal to the lyrics, which seems like it should all apply to Styx as well, but I still love Styx.

Also, I generally hate the emo scene, and most pop rock bands to pop up recently, but I can't get over how incredibly good My Chemical Romance's "The Black Parade" is as an album. It feels like Emo-Queen.

But this does not apply exclusively to music. I thought Titanic was amazing when I first saw it, though you never could have got me to admit it. I also thought Leonardo DiCaprio was so cool, and yet if I mentioned it, I would have been labeled so incredibly gay by my peers. Glad he did shape up to be pretty bad ass, so I don't have to be ashamed that I think he's a badass.

Also, I hate McDonalds as a company, and for their taste in general. But god damned, their chocolate dipped ice cream cones are more satisfying than any other thing I've ever had in my life.

McDonald's did recently come out in support of gay marriage, just as a note. I would still never eat their "food," but they're not necessarily entirely evil.

Also I love cheesy 80s metal, and a lot of fairly bad TV shows, or TV shows that are only good at one thing.

Guilty pleasures are the essence of entertainment for its own sake.

Ketchup on bread. Everyone says its nasty, but i always say pass the ketchup when i get my roll at the dinner table.

The band Shonen Knife. Horrid Japanese accented engrish and bubblegum pop guitar riffs. I don't know why but i just love the stuff.

Kirby - Kirby games, Kirby music, Kirby in Brawl, it is my absolute favorite stuff on Earth. Even though i concede that its not the highest quality all the time, and that there are better games out there, I just love Kirby.

I'm with you on the My Chemical Romance thing, Jack. I love their music even though it's emo as all get out.

But I tried watching the video for The Black Parade and it's too emo. I'll just pretend they're a studio band and there's no one actually looking like that. Atleast this way I can keep my dignity and listen to their music.

    Hopefully

    Also, Judo, the band.

I know it's not just about music, but I can't quite think of other things just yet. I suppose I think magic is awesome and I'd love to be a wizard. That's not something I readily admit in public. Like... at all. Ever.

That makes me think of the secrets everyone keeps. The people I know, what kinds of things are they hiding? Could be anything.

Trashy romance novels are my guilty pleasure. So I guess I'll be the second to mention porn. It depends though. Whether you believe it or not, not all trashy romance writers are equally bad, and so I can only stand some of the writers. The other ones really are way too painful to read.

And that one "When Angels Deserve to Die" song by System of a Down. I really hate all their other stuff, but I'm a huge sucker for harmonic minor, and so I just can't bring myself to hate that song, because it sucks sufficiently less than their other stuff for me to get hooked on the melodic minor.

I guess that's about it. Can't remember what else I feel guilty about enjoying... I definitely don't get guilty about enjoying food.

This guy I work with used to sing that song in a high-pitched girly voice. Just the chorus. Over and over and over again.

As for guilty pleasures, when I took half a year off to work, I only worked in the evenings and so I ended up watching a lot of afternoon t.v. It was mostly soap operas, and I ended up becoming a fan. I'd be watching one right now if I didn't worry about my roommate walking in on me doing so.

You mean we're not supposed to want to be wizards?

I listen to pretty much only punk, hardcore and metal, but dammit, Beck holds a special place in my heart. Does that count? Or is Beck as awesome as I think they are?

Following this god damn stupid election even though every time I open a news site and see the latest perversion of what was once intended to be a competition of who could improve the country the most rather than who can avoid being labeled scary words the most, a little bit of my soul dies. God damnit.

I really can't say I feel guilty about my porn habits. I certainly would not really want to disclose them to others, but that's more because I believe it's seriously impossible to explain to anyone why my habits go the way they do (and exceptionally easy to give exactly the wrong message, either unintentionally or by malevolent interpretation).

The one with Keira Knightley or the one with Jennifer Ehle?

Also, I just remembered: Charmed. It's like everything I hate about WB chick dramas, but with magic! And the 5 year old girl in me just loves the magic and so I enjoy watching that show, despite how awful it is.

Eh. I won't speak for him, but when I say Emo, I pretty much refer to MCR and the like. I know that's not correct, but that's just how it's perceived today. Like, when I think of Hardcore, I think of Black Flag, The Melvins, Minutemen, etc. That's just not the case now days.

Hi 5! That's the only SoaD song I like. And my friends are big fans who are friends with a band that does tribute shows, so I get a lot of exposure and yeah. Chop Suey is the ONLY SoaD song I like.

I was gonna say watching Kim Possible, except I haven't had any tv programming to watch in like, 5 years, so I guess that doesn't count any more.

I can't really come up with anything...Damn. :P I thought I had more weird interests than that.

EDIT: Feral, Invader Zim is not a guilty pleasure because Invader Zim is awesome. Although I guess I could count that.

Sugar Free Skinny Lattes. I feel so... assholish ordering one, but I actually like the taste of that better than a regular latte. I just feel like some pretentious douchebag.

I hear the call out to Stargate.

Oh, also, Aquaman. People give aquaman a lot of crap, but he is quite seriously one of my 3 favorite heroes, and I actually think the power to talk to sea creatures is cool. And I like all his outfits too.

I love the whole album, and Black Eyed Peas in general, and I thought it was a unique song on the album, and it kind of fit into the flow, albeit poppy. I would not automatically change the radio station. Plus, I do love Fergie's lovely lady lumps.

Nothing to be ashamed of there. It was overplayed in its day for sure, and it's more of a punchline these days, but it was easily one of the better hip hop (before the term became synonymous with rap) dance tracks ever made. Anytime that song or "It Takes Two" by Rob Base & EZ Rock start playing, I have to listen to the song the whole way through.

    America's Next Top Model.

I was flipping through the channels one day and I came across it. Of course the basic side of me was loving watching a show with a bunch of hot young model wannabes. But one day I realized that there really is some skill involved in modeling and that the chicks that really are just pretty faces and nothing more don't go far.
