Issues running Spore [Fixed!]

Hey guys

finally got my copy of spore, but it's being a pain in the ass.

Installs fine, no errors or anything like that but when i try and start it i get the following error message

"SporeApp.exe - Bad image

The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\d3dx9_27.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette"

I've reinstalled the game once, i have the latest directX (and DirectX SDK, but i doubt that's an issue) and plenty of other games work fine, TF2, Stalker, Crysis, DoW.

So does anyone have any ideas why this might be heppening, i've had a look about with google but to no avail.

And as a related note, lets assume the DVD i got is kaput, could i download the game from EA's Download service and use the CD key i have to activate that copy?

Other things that might be important:

Yes, it is a legit copy.
This copy came from the states, while i'm in the UK, i know it sounds stupid but region locking?

Thanks in advance

EDIT:

I'm a fucking moron.
I downloaded the d3dx9_27.dll and placed it in the C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SPORE\Sporebin directory. I am now able to begin making an army of penis monsters. Sorry, i blame having a hangover for my lack of thinking.
