Because this deserved it's own thread, and no one has made one yet.
WHO IS NIINOU AND WHY SHOULD I CARE WHAT HE DOES?
Kazuya Niinou is a game developer who's worked with several companies such as Nintendo, Vanilla Software, and Atlus Co. The primary thing you should know about this guy is that he's responsible for the sexcellent DS game known as Etrian Odyssey, in which you take a tiny band of adventurers into a giant tree to get the crap beaten out of you time and time again.
SO WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH 7TH DRAGON?
Well, Etrian Odyssey was Niinou's shot at faithfully recreating the 1st person dungeon crawlers such as Wizardy and Bard's Tale (no, not the PS2 version). In that most who've played the game would say he succeeded.
Well, deciding to make a short hop forward in the growth of the jRPG genre, Niinou's latest project, 7th Dragon, is apparently a throwback to the days of DQ1 and FF1 - a bunch of nameless blokes strap on shields and swords and venture into the wide world to... well, kill 7 dragons. As you might guess, it's not big on plot.
In many ways, this borrows a lot of conventions from Etrian Odyssey, which is hardly surprising since Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest borrowed a lot of conventions from the oldschool FP Dungeon Crawls. There are seven character classes, each with a fairly delineated role, four models for each class. There's a skill tree system, etc, etc.
Admittedly details are still scarce on the nitty-gritty of the game, but knowing the guy behind it, I have very high hopes for this game.
Also, Yuzo Koshiro music is a go.
WHO IN THE HELL DID THE ARTWORK?
Some guy named Guillermo Mota. He um, does loli artwork a lot. I don't really care. I think it's adorable.

I guess this looks interesting, I guess. I guess. Eh.
Another loliart classique JRPG? Sign me up.
Pretty, at least.
Also, the DS really is turning into the RPG machine this gen.
Environment shots look great.

But, this is looking nice. I like the Secret of Mana style circular menu (attack, items, magic, etc).
I will also require one of these, the second from the left...
edit-
I wish this would go beyond a 4-man group. Maybe just a fifth, we don't need to go crazy with six or anything...
It's just the classes in EO2 where A) different enough from each other, and you could get some really rad combos going with certain classes and skills -- I really wanted to dabble in everything; but, I didn't want to have to go back topside to switch/level characters...
It's obviously jumping around castle to castle in a mad rendition of Catch me if you can.

The trailer itself is pretty meh (and the video quality is atrocious), but heck, I wanna be through.

I can live with that. Did they mention if it was going to be as punishing to play?

If the game is anywhere near as strong as EO design wise it'll be excellent. Can't wait.

But yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh i hate knowing about a game this early. by the time it comes out to the us i'll have stopped caring. ah well.
game looks awesome so far.
While on my travels I've been researching magic and the dragons.
Do you like travelling?
(yes)
Travelling's great! You can meet all kinds of people and you can do whatever you want without a care.
You can only 'level up' one character per day via chibi character chat, so I think I've found something for me to do every day from now on.
I need to know if its a tree like diablo where you choose how you level up or more like an MMO where you level skills by use.
Eww, random battles are icky.
I no longer have any idea how old I am or what year it is.
Congratulations, you've achieved retro-nirvana. You are 10 years old in the year ninteen-eighty-awesome.
Also despite not having to 'unlock' classes, the starting town just doesn't have equipment for certain classes. Funny.
